My big question is it possible. If so how do you set it?

I tried putting the xBOX IP address in the app on my phone and it doesn't connect?

Help

No need to set it up. You configure your HTPC only and when you have the Xbox 360 in extender mode or any other Extender like the echo when you select a movie, recorded tv episode, or channel to watch/tune it will ask you what device you would like to watch/tune it on.

:)

I just figured the connect to the Host and I see the Xbox as a device to select. However when I am connected to the Xbox I get no response when using the remote.

The host is controlled fine.

Ideas?

So you have Media Center started on your Xbox and in the app you have chosen the xbox (should say something like Mcx.....) - and nothing on the xbox when you try to watch a show?

Strange - quick question - are you expecting your phone/tablet to play content? If so that is not how the app works.

Probably should give Motz and everyone else your details (app version ie android 1.3.1, iOS etc, and windows 7 or 8 - also the Services version (latest or Beta))

Most likely just reboot the HTPC real quick and it should fix it up.

HTPC is WIN8 PRO
Remote App fails on WP8 and WIN 8 PRO laptop.

So are you able to start playback and control your HTPC? So when the pop up comes up just select the name of your HTPC. As long as WMC is open it should start playback and control it.

Yes, I have been using the app just fine on my HTPC with it on my WP8 and Win8 laptop.

Sunday I finally dumped the cable box in my daughters room for an XBOX 360 as an extender on the HTPC. I do see the option of selecting the xBOX as a device in the app, but when I do the open instance of Media Center on the xBOX does not respond.

Maybe reinstall the software on the HTPC? Could it be since the XBOX was added later as an extender the host app isnt configured correctly?

You could give it a try and reboot the htpc after just to be sure. Very strange I test it with an xbox 360 and an echo here in the office.

I reinstalled and rebooted the HTPC. The xBOX still doesn't respond. Smart glass works just fine. If that helps to trouble shoot.

My assumption is probably that something on the PC is blocking the communication with your Xbox.

MMC Communication:
Phone -> MMC Services -> Xbox

Smart Glass
Phone -> Xbox

So we have an additional layer as the apps can talk to any extender and they are completely different protocols as well since smart glass doesn't do anything really with extender.

Things that could be blocking it are perhaps other plugins that are installed or 3rd party antivirus or firewalls. What all do you have installed on your HTPC? This should help a bit more.

I got it to work.

I uninstalled a few programs I don't use anymore.

I still had your network tuner installed, was one of them.

I rebooted and then reconfigured the extender (so uninstalled it and then reinstalled it).

Based on initial usage all looks good now.

Thanks

I have a similar issue. I have a newly installed windows 8 machine with 4 Xbox extenders. When using the My media center client app none of the x boxes respond to the instruction to play content. I know the media center extenders work correctly as I can watch recorded and live TV normally from them. The media center is running the Ceton 4 tuner cards with a completely fresh install of media center and the my media center server component. I have tried Issuing the watch and remote commands from both windows phone 8 and surface Rt.

Any help would be welcome.

Thanks

Give the PC a quick reboot just to ensure nothing is going on there. This will reset the extender sessions. Close out of the MMC app completely on your phone/surface and relaunch xboxes into Media Center extender mode. Launch the apps and see if it works then. Also see if the remote is working navigating around.

:) glad it is working now Usually it is because extender sessions might have been open during the install. A quick reboot always fixes it.
