As this section is a bit quiet i thought i'd pop in and post.

I've only got into using media center since i've been using Windows 7 which i have for a couple pc's at home. The missus still has Vista on her pc (and i have a spare vista disc/licence doing nothing). I just wondered what the drawbacks are with using Vista, everyone recommends Windows 7 but if i put a pc together using my spare Vista disc what obstacles are there.
We would be using it for freesat via satellite

you'll need the TV pack for freesat. maybe dvblogic would work I'm not sure. other than that I had some sleep (s3) issues with vista.... I may still have the TV pack if you can't find it

I found the tv pack. Sleep issues not a problem as its only for pc in kitchen/dining room for when anyone is in that room, pc is pretty much on all the time anyway. I just got to get a cable fed into the room.
Cheers
