Broken my guide - lost channel names

#1

Post by mark1234 » Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:26 am

As a result of MS knacking up the guide data last week, I've spent a few days using data downloaded from Digiguide and imported using MCE 7 Reset Toolbox. I've uninstalled those now to return to using the native data only. Rather than go through every single channel and remap the listings data back I figured it would be quicker to just run through TV Setup again. It was quick, and it did remap the listings back to the downloaded data.

But... In the guide list I've now lost some channel names down the left hand side, but they are still present at the bottom of the screen.

I suspect this is something to do with trying out channel logos using MCE7RTB, but until resetting the guide I had been able to get back to channel names and remove all the logos. The try out confirmed my opinion that I wouldn't actually be interested in the logos. If i wanted a static list of brand icons in my face I'd have an iPhone. I don't, and I don't.

Any ideas on how to restore the channel names? Or how can I completely clear out the guide database? (Preferably without losing the recording schedule)

Thanks.

when you go to edit the channel does the name show? You could try guidetool see if callsigns are blank....

Yes, channel names are present in that screen. I've tried renaming as well to see if that brought it back, but no luck. I've never used guidetool but can try it.

I guess you can look at backing up the schedule, then delete the .db and start from scratch - urgh!

How about using System Restore / a PC backup?

Before uninstalling those programs, did you (inside of said programs) revert to the original state?

I had something similar going with a Theme I installed. I had uninstalled the Theme program (something related to Media Browser) and I couldn't revert to the original theme unless I reinstalled and reverted to the default theme.

Maybe worth a try.

I had already used MCE7RTB to remove the icons, and channel names were appearing perfectly until I reran the TV setup.

I liked Rob's idea of a System Restore. Unfortunately there were only two restore points available, both from yesterday. So I've increased the amount of space reserved for this. For next time.

By restoring the %programdata% directory for MCE7RTB, and with it the icon files I've now got icons in place of empty space. It's an improvement, but I don't know why only some channels are affected as pretty much all of them had logos mapped at one point.

I'm going to try reinstalling MCE7RTB and see if it will remove the logos again. If it does, I'm just to going to leave it alone afterwards.

Ah ha!

MCE7RTB reinstalled. Logos removed. Lovely, lovely, plain text restored. Even forced a guide update to make sure that didn't break anything. (Up to 15 days of data now). Disabled some scheduled tasks that MCE7RTB installs. Rebooted. Everything still fine.

Hurray!
