Subtitles:MKV with SRT
I have a bunch of MKV files with SRT embedded subtitles. They work fine on the PC, but they don't play on the Echo. Has anyone figured out a way to get this to work? I'm using the latest Shark007 pack.

I don't think there's a way to make it work with SRT subtitles on any extender. It's not just the Echo. If you figure out a way to make "soft" subtitles work on an extender with an MKV file encoded in high definition, I'll send you $50.00.

The closest I've come is by using a WTV container. I did some research a while back, but got busy with other things and lost track of where I was. I'm serious... If someone comes up with a reliable way to get DVD and Bluray movies into a format that will play on extenders in HD, with soft subtitles (meaning that I can turn them on or off at will using the remote control), I'll send them $50.00 via PayPal.

barnabas, how do subtitles work in WTV files on an extender?

It's been a while since I read about it. I'd have to find my old posts. Don't have time right now. I was close to finding a solution, but had other priorities. I would be extremely happy if I could rip my DVD's and Blurays into a WTV container (using MPEG for DVD, and H.264 for Bluray) with subtitles that work like those in a recorded TV episode.
Maybe some day, I'll have time to get back to it. My offer still stands for anyone who beats me to it though.

Is this a new Green Button "X-Prize" competition? This is so tantalizing. It seems easy at first reading, consumes lives, and someone claims to have almost solved it but forgot to write down the details. Reminds me of Fermat's Last Theorem.VikingCrown wrote:+1 !!!!barnabas1969 wrote:I don't think there's a way to make it work with SRT subtitles on any extender. It's not just the Echo. Well, obviously I would prefer a solution that doesn't require too many steps to complete... and it would only help me if it works on an HP X280N, Linksys DMA-2100/2200 or a Ceton Echo. I don't have any XBox360's. A WTV container would be ideal since it allows full transport control (FFWD/RWD/etc).

We do understand that this is something users would like, and investigating the options available to us is on the plan for a future update, however it will be a bit down the road due to it's ranking vs other priorities.
