Remove channels from program guide

#1

Post by francorosso » Tue Dec 18, 2012 1:58 am

Can somebody tell me how to remove the channels I don't receive from the program guide? I'm on Fios and obviously I don't receive all the channels they offer, nor do I want to see program guides for channels I have no interest in. Sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find an answer.

yeah, I wavered a bit on which way I was going to go. I almost went your direction, but hey, the Christmas spirit is upon me.

Yeah... or just open the Guide, and move to the left to select the channel number/name. Click it, and there are all kinds of wonderful options.

You know, Christmas has always been a holiday that I enjoy very much. But this year, I'm not in the mood. I put up the lights and the tree... but I didn't go as far as most years. I guess the thing is that my kids are getting older... my son only wants a new gaming PC (that busts the budget for him), and my daughter just wants a Visa gift card so she can buy clothes. My wife can't think of anything she wants... and she's not the type of person who wants many possessions. That leaves my 5 year old step-daughter... and my wife doesn't want me to give her too many gifts.

I decided to upgrade my son's old PC and give it to her. My wife got her a monitor, mouse, speakers and keyboard. I blew the budget on the upgrade too... it's a long story. Basically, she's getting a completely new PC.

I've done ALL of my shopping online so far this year. I'm planning to go out tonight and get some toys for my step-daughter... but I don't know what to get her either... she's got tons of toys.

It's there any way to auto remove channels that don't tune? Our a program to run that will remove invalid ones?

Mediacenter will scan your channels for you in the tv settings... (settings/tv/guide/auto-select)
I use guidetool to edit my guide listings: http://1geek1tool.com/guidetool

The best thing about TGB has always been how friendly and helpful people were. I see a trend in the opposite direction lately. Remember not all friendly humor translates well in writing.

Oh, come on now... just having fun. Besides, if you visit any forum on the Internet, you will find instructions that tell you to search before you post. I will admit that the search function on this forum isn't very good... but Google works. And... if you really want to search only this forum, you can enter the following (without the quotes) on Google:

"my search keywords site:thegreenbutton.tv"

Not that I've found, but that would be very cool. Do you want to code it?

Other forums aren't really a good roll model. Way to many trolls. I think the Media Center crowd is generally a little older so that helps. I just think in general it has been more negative than usual. Tis the season.

No, just my crazy liberal friend. :) I did not forget about you. I have some boxes stored at my parents house where I think the full size bracket is. I haven't had a chance to visit.

It's actually Settings -> TV -> Guide -> Edit Channels -> Auto Select. I never noticed that option. I might try it the next time I have to setup all my channels again. I've read that it takes hours to run, but at least I can walk away and do something else while I let it work for me. It would not remove duplicated channels nor merge the analog/SD/HD ones, but it would at least remove the ones to which I don't subscribe.

Oh yeah, I forgot all about the tuner. It's no problem. Whenever you get around to it, I will appreciate it. My "jolly old troll" comment was a play on "Old king Cole was a jolly old soul, a jolly old soul was he."

Does the auto select tool actually remove unsubscribed channels? I was under the impression that it does not.

I don't know. Never used it. If someone could confirm, that would be nice. If this works as I hope, it would be a real time saver the next time I change my tuner configuration.
