Diamond TV Wonder 750 PCIe

My Tv Wonder 750PCIe was working until an update failed to install correctly.

Compro Technology, Inc. - Other hardware, Streaming Media and Broadcast Devices - ATI Unified AVStream Driver

Installation date: ‎12/‎8/‎2012 11:55 AM

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80070103

Update type: Optional

Compro Technology, Inc. Other hardware, Streaming Media and Broadcast Devices software update released in January, 2011

More information:
http://winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20418798

Help and Support:
http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=hub

I did a restore then a reset and finally an autonuke and reinstall / reactivation of the OS.

The new install finds 19 QAM stations and no analog stations.

Started off using the windows 7 drivers then windows 7 in compatibility mode...

Installed the new driver Microsoft offered as an optional driver update.

Then tried vista drivers and xp drivers in compatibility mode.

The tuner still works when I boot into windows 7. Downloaded WMdiag and it dredged a ton of data and created a lengthy report. Have installed and uninstalled tuner so many time that I'm certain something is compromised. I know it worked once and was surprised reinstalling the O.S. did not completely rectify the issues. Requested assistance from Diamond.

Now comparing registry setting between Win 7 and 8. Looking at TV Systems Services, Play Ready, Media Center Peripheral, ATI Technologies and HKEY Class Root Tuner Settings (Oh Boy).

I have an ATI 600 PCIE that was working and is still working in another machine on Windows 7. When I couldn't get it to work in Windows 8 I bought the 750 PCIE. I know it can work since it did once... Just have to find what I did on the initial install before the new driver failed to install correctly and put me on this mission - LOL.

What I love about this is I'm going to learn more about the inner workings of Windows and way more about tuners than I ever wanted to know. :)

Thanks in advance for your response!

Regards,

Mitch

Fox -

I should have 67 cable stations and only have 19 QAM.
Looking for advice on how to clean out all my attempts to fix the problem and get back to the point where the tuner worked correctly.
Don't relish the thought of another disk wipe and reinstall.
And don't know how many times I can use my key before MS says wait a minute... what's going on.
Everything is working except the tuner.

Windows finds both tuners but only pulls in QAM stations.
TY

Don't know if this will help.
I had similar problems on one of my motherboards with
the card in a slot that was father away from the CPU.
Mine is a 650.
I put it in the slot closest to the CPU and it worked.
Go figure.

Leroy -
When I boot into windows 7 the card works.

That tells me that the problem is a windows 8 driver problem.
Have a hunch its a Software MPEG Encoding problem.
Being told by Microsoft 'My first recommendation would be for a Hauppauge HVR-2250 (dual combo/hybrid board)'
Go buy another tuner is not an answer... and "MICROSOFT is NOT
certifying tuners for Windows 8 - a vendor stating they are compatible is not
the same as certification'' is not much help.

Thanks
Mitch

I am using the HD 650 under windows 8.
It uses the same driver as the 750.
Make sure to use the windows 7 driver listed
on the AMD website.
You will need to install it in compatability mode for windows 7
or the installer won't detect the hardware.
The driver on windows update is an older version and it
always caused me audio squealing when the picture was really white.
Might be causing you problems.
I am running the 32 bit windows 8 pro,so I don't know
if 64 bit may be causing you problems.
Might try doing a clean uninstall of all ati/amd software
then try to install it.
Make sure to turn off automatic updates so windows isn't
installing that old driver over your new install.
Then check windows update and hide that update.
My other 650 is working on windows 7 64 bit also.
You shouldn't have to reinstall every time.
Just run catalyst install manger from control panel/
programs and features to uninstall everything.
You can always run media center setup again from settings.

Rule #1 with an HTPC. Turn off Automatic Updates in Windows. Do manual updates only so that if an update messes up your system you know which one does it. Also, concerning drivers, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You need to turn off automatic updates in Windows Updates in Windows 7. Go into device manager & uninstall & delete the driver. Then install the drivers from the website.
www.diamondmm.com/TVW750PCIE.php
Then check Windows Updates for the Compro driver. Right click it and select hide update.

With Windows 8 I installed the Diamond Windows 7 driver & uninstalled it & then ran Windows Update. It found the ATI driver & installed it. Works good now.
