New combo build for parents

Hi Everyone,

I was thinking of convincing my parents convert from using ReplayTV to using WMC. The one question I have is what would be the cheapest CPU that would work great as a combo work machine/media center machine.

The plan would be to use extenders & no more then 2 extenders at one time would be in use.

For computer usage, it's mainly to surf the internet, play simple card games (like Hearts that comes with Windows), play music. The most intense usage would be video editing & that would be to edit out commercials using something like VideoRedo & resaving.

Their current setup is a AMD X3 435 with 4 gig DDR2 memory.

I do have a spare AMD X4 635, with 8 Gig DDR3 & spare Motherboard that I can replace it with, if that would be fast enough, otherwise would an I3 Ivybridge work fine for what I have mentioned?

Honestly either if the combinations you mentioned would work (amd X4 or ivy bridge). Media center is a relatively light weight application and won't take too much processing power.
