Or is just a work in progress?

I hope it still has CEC. That would suck if it doesn't.

HDMI CEC is one of the features I was looking forward to having. If it is truely gone the list of reasons for me to make the jump is getting smaller by the day.

I sure hope so. This would be an awesome box to hide behind a wall-mounted TV if it did HDMI-CEC pass through.

Ceton, where are you? I'd like to know if it has HDMI-CEC.

I'd also like to know if it has IP control as previously stated, and not just the ability to control it with the Companion app. I'd like to see the ability to send IP commands to the Echo... like power-on and power-off... and for those commands to be relayed via HDMI-CEC too.

The reason I ask is because I have scheduled tasks setup to log my kids' extenders out of Windows... and allowed login times to prevent them from logging back in late at night. The only problem with this is that the extender stays on... and so does the TV (because the extender is still displaying an image). If I could send a command via IP to the Echo to turn it off, it would solve that problem (especially if the Echo would then send a power-off command to the TV via CEC).

bump...

Was just sitting here thinking about adding an extender to the master bedroom. Thought, hey CEC would be awesome, I wonder if the echo has that... It appears you had the same though. Anybody got an answer?

Long ago they said it would have it, but it's not currently listed on the specs, and no official comments. IMO this is a must add feature for anyone not using ancient TV's. Even if someone posted comment saying the hardware supports it, but the software end isn't ready yet I'd be happy. After all the $35 Raspberry PI has it, and it works pretty good too. I have one :)

My apologies to all for my silence on this - I had to get clarification on what I could share.
So the good news is that CEC support is still planned. It is a work in progress, but we expect to enable it with a future update.

I am assuming based on the QA response that this is currently a software limitation to HDMI-CEC support and not a hardware limitation. Or is there a current hardware limitation in the first generation echo?

Erkotz said that it would be in a future update. That means software.

Figured I would bump this thread since there has been no update for over a year on the HDMI CEC software update. Is there still plans in the pipe for HDMI-CEC now that the Android update is no longer a priority or going to happen.

I think HDMI CEC is due to be released with the Web browser functionality for the Echo. ;)

But when is the next update coming? No news on the official blog. Nothing here, as far as I can see.

There is no update. There is no new firmware. It's obvious that Ceton is focusing on other parts of their business, so let it go.
