Dual DVB-S2 + Dual DVB-T2 on one card

#1

Post by holidayboy » Wed Jun 08, 2011 10:22 am

So I'm looking to tweak my setup slightly and think I might be after one of the BGT3630 cards once they're released - assuming Blackgold manage to avoid issues like those that plagued the BGT3620!

Anybody else looking to include something like this in their setup?

Yup will definately be getting 1 or 2 of these at some point (or equivalent...am hoping hauppauge will do one as their driver support is better IMO). Still havent been thought the DSO here but its happening in the next few months. I currently have 2 * dvb-t and 2 * dvb-s2 cards so would be great to have just 2 new ones.

Does anyone have any experience with DVB-S2 and DVBLink TV Source?

I'd love a couple of these card but only if I can run them out of my WHS.

I'm running 3x DVB-S2 tuners through TVSource (and the net pack) and 2x DVB-T direct in MC.

It works really well, I also pluged a Dreambox into the LAN and got a £20 Freestfromsky card to get a few extra FTV satellite channels (inc 5HD).

I'm using the cards in my MC machine at the moment but when I move house I plan to have all tuners in my WHS2011 box and go for a SFF HTPC under the TV.

Thanks for the reply, Rob. May I ask, what have you got under the lid of your TV Source machine? My (now old) WHS is having a hard enough time with four SD freeivew tuners and I think asking it to work with HD-quality broadcasts may finish it off.

Hi milli

Oh poo I think you're right. I got over excited :(

The BGT3595 is twin DVB-T + DVB-S2 and the BGT3620 is twin DVB-T2 ............ maybe a BGT3660 will appear one day!

My HTPC has a Q6600 (underclocked to keep heat down), I didn't think that there was a lot of processing power needed for TVSource since there isn't any encoding going on, I'll maybe start a few streams playing around the house and take a look at CPU load to see what's what.

It's early days with this site. There will be quite a lot of off topic stuff going on but I'm sure it will settle down :)

Damn, that would have been the perfect tuner... was considering replacing both of my hauppauge dvbs2 tuners and avermedia tuner with a couple of the BGT3595s, but was kind of hoping that while I waited, a dual DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 tuner model would be released, would then buy a couple... ah, that dream disappears... :-(

Thanks Rob. I'm hoping to build a new WHS2011 around an i3 (or an i5 at a push), but sometimes my existing old AMD-based rig can't get itself together fast enough to respond to a channel change request from a connected media centre before it throws a 'No Signal' screen.
