Two extender sessions, one echo.

Not sure if this is even possible, particularly whether the hardware and software can handle it, but would it be possible to open up two extender sessions on one echo? This could pave the way to PIP.

That's a cool idea. Also may benefit those who want to flip between two streams with buffer.

I'd be a +1 for this feature. Wonder if Ceton could enhance the artificial extender limit. If not this may limit usefulness of this for many.

To clarify, are you looking for two sessions to the same WMC box, or a single session to each of two WMC boxes?

Two separate screens on the same hardware... You could then have a picture in picture that shows two different shows at once.

I don't *THINK* the MPEG decoder in our CPU supports 2 simultaneous HD streams, so this is likely out due to HW limitations.

My grandfather used to do that ~25 years ago. He had 2 TVs stacked vertically so he could watch 3 sporting events at once.

As a kid we always had two tv's stacked also. The working one on top of the broken one.

Lol, OR, you could just plug two echos into one TV, and use the TV's built in PIP function...

I'd imagine some clever use of hdmi-cec or an IP-based remote could solve that problem.

The remote control ID can be set in the Media Center PC. Not sure if it can be set on the extender, but it may be possible if these same registry settings exist under the MCX user's registry hive. See the information below that I copied from http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archiv ... 86961.aspx. The instruction in step 1 is referring to the original Media Center remote control. If you have a programmable remote, you'll need to change your remote's code set to match the registry setting.

That said, I keep meaning to connect an extender to my TV to see if it will do PIP between two HDMI sources. Maybe I'll try it tonight.
Set Remote Control ID - To enable your Media Center to respond to a specific remote control ID do the following; 1. Press and hold the DVD Menu key on the remote then press a number button (1-8) for 5 seconds. Remotes with visible LED signal indicators will blink twice to confirm the change. 2. Enter that same number below. 3. Save. 4. Restart the Media Center PC. Note: To enable Media Center to respond to all remotes use the number 0. A reboot is required for this setting to take effect.

Registry key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da
Registry value - CodeSetNum0
Registry value data type - REG_DWORD
This setting also requires deleting the following registry values:
