Ceton Previews Multi-Room DVR!!!
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/ceto ... -hands-on/
A multi-room DVR based on Windows 7 embedded with extenders that will also work with 7MC! I just had a nerdgasim! Of course I need to see the price, but if it's at all reasonable then I'm all in.

Your post count is not high enough to post links. I edited your post.meoge wrote:thanks, not sure why the link didn't come through.

So will this thing play my movie collection? If so, count me in for a handful of these.

Hopefully they will offer their extender for those that don't want to use the Xbox 360 (at a reasonable price )

Hoping for .iso playback off of the network. If it has that, I am in.

Man, I'm reading this article on engadget... you guys have thought of everything! Extenders, HDMI-CEC (HAPPY!), MoCA, Bluray. Well done guys, well done. This may finally be the thing that makes 7MC mainstream. Now could we have some decent pricing

Digital Media Zone says that the Q will have some software enhancements to WMC. Will Ceton customers be able to purchase the software if we have a Ceton based HTPC? Will customers of other tuners be able to purchase the software?

I'm really hoping that we'll be able to install software on this. I know it's embedded and we won't be able to do anything we want, but if we could have some kind of app store or something where we could purchase things like My Movies, Recorded TV HD, etc.. that would make this perfect.

I wonder - will the "Echos" work as Extenders to a regular PC based WinMC7 setup or will they only work connected to a Q?

This is great news. I was hoping Ceton would come out with an extender. They surpassed my hopes.stonethecrows wrote:The report says with regular windows mc so it looks good!

The only issue for me with the Echo as an extender is how my network is laid out. The FiOS line comes in from the master bedroom, and the HTPC is in the living room. I have flattened my coax to the point where I have one 2:1 splitter in the kids room (for the Internet) and then one in the Living Room for the Ceton tuner and the Hauppauge tuner.stonethecrows wrote:The report says with regular windows mc so it looks good!
If I go with the echo, I would have to add one more 2:1 splitter in the master bedroom for the MoCA only of the Echo thereby lowering my signal strength along the line 3.5 dbm, (unless I remove the 1650).. I would like to have seen 802.11N @ 5 Ghz in the echo.

This is what Steve Ballmer should have shown at his keynote. Show us that Microsoft can pack a punch against GoogleTV and AppleTV... not this comcast on demand and sesame street kinect garbage.

From the description on Engadget, it supports both MoCA and ethernet. So if you just had a ethernet run instead, you could avoid the coax split.carljanderson wrote:The only issue for me with the Echo as an extender is how my network is laid out. Yeah, I'd have to make a run back there. Maybe through the wall. No crawlspaces in the apartment.gcw07 wrote:From the description on Engadget, it supports both MoCA and ethernet. So if you just had a ethernet run instead, you could avoid the coax split.

I wonder what Tivo/etc think about this.
I'm hoping it works as advertised. I'd have NO issue selling and installing these boxes around my town. If I told people I could get them the same tv and recordings in their huge ass homes (talking 10+ tv's) They'd pay 1000's.. They already pay close to that in box rentals

Amen Brother! Not that I wouldn't like to see Kinect on the PC.. But this would have been a good thing to demo at CES.. Especially since they are also working on a WP7 App to control it.. I know they are all pumped on mobile right now so it would have tied in perfectly. At least the products are coming and this is great news for us WMC fans. I'm super excited to see just what the Q and Echo can do..makryger wrote:This is what Steve Ballmer should have shown at his keynote. Also hoping we get a little MCL love in there somewhere as well.

Man!!!! I just got done building a HTPC for my parents and putting 360's in for extenders. This would have been perfect for them!!!! I wonder if this will have the usual cable card install hassles? The HTPC I put in for my parents is still having problems getting a cable card to work. Tech comes Thursday morning after about 5 hours on the phone with Time Warner and 2 cable cards not working figured why not. Hope the tech has some experience with them.
