So, will this not work anymore to customize WMC 7? I used it a while back to customize my setup and lost the config on two out of three of my MC PCs earlier this week. I tried to use Media Center Studio to get the custom menus back, but it doesn't seem to work.

Media Center updates can break menu changes made with MCS.

I use mcsfix.exe to automatically rename the offending files. A google for mcsfix.zip should bring up a few results.

You can also manually rename the files if you prefer.

I'm on tapatalk now so can't quickly post links for you.

oh yeah i just manually rename the files. i've needed to do it 4 or 5 times in a couple of years.

its c:\program files\microsoft\windows\ehome\packages\mceclientux\dsm\start resources.dll needs renaming to start resources.dll.old

also you may find a DSM-2 folder with the same files in. you need to changes these too

Glad to see someone is trying to fix / develop Media Center Studio and make it easier for people to install.

Thanks!

Hmmm I tried it out and it pretty much didn't work at all for me, the only thing it did was occasionally make my Media Browser strip dissapear. I tried changing strip locations, changing tiles to different strips, disabling strips, re-organizing strips, hiding specific tiles... nothing seemed to work...

I figure there must be something I am missing here???

Try MCE Reset Toolbox instead? http://vistademon.wordpress.com/
