The Zalman coolers can be hooked directly to the MB once you look at the connector on the zalman and your CPU fan header you will see how it hooks up it just doesn't use one of the pins. The zalmans also have an option for an external fan speed adjustment knob so you can adjust the cpu fan speed.. I never used mine I just hooked it to the MB.

Thanks chaps should order one next week, i'll go with the direct to mobo route and let bios control speed. I have a front 120mm case fan which makes a bit of a racket so i guess i could use the fanmate from the Zalman to slow that down instead
