ATI/AMD Catalyst Noise Reduction

#1

Post by Pixelz » Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:23 am

I'm running the Catalyst 11.4 display driver with an HD5450 graphics card, and when I configure the Noise Reduction option I've noticed that movies often appear distorted. For example on a head shot, the eyes might lag a fraction behind the other features as a face turns from side to side.

I seem to remember Catalyst Noise Reduction caused all kinds of undesirable side effects back in 2009, but I thought it was all fixed last year. Anyone else noticed this distortion, or am I just permanently pissed?

"Enhancements" like noise reduction rarely do anything to enhance the image. My recommendation is to disable all the so-called "enhancements" and just display the content as it was intended. If your display is calibrated properly, that's all you need.
