Channel Changing Very Slow
Anyone else have an issue with the channel changing on the extender is very slow ( around 3 seconds).
Running quad core, 8 gig ram, gig etheret all the way around. Everything else seems pretty quick. 30 second skip has a little lag.
Any thoughts on what the problem/solution might be.

Whats your tuner, tv signal source, and running any 3rd party software?

3 seconds is about the fastest I can get a channel change on my HTPC...and that's with the live TV buffer in RAM.

I can confirm what Richard said... my ClearQAM tuners are the fastest - 1-2 seconds, the CableCARD tuners take 3-5 seconds, depending on whether the channel is SDV or not. Sometimes SDV channels take even longer than 5 seconds, but I imagine that has more to do with the response time at the headend than it does at my end.

Ceton tuner, HD Comcast, only 3rd party would be Channel Logo's. I also have the dreaded "network issue" pop up every once in a while when I change channels. I will say that if I change channels on my HTPC, it take about 1 second as compaired to to 3-4 on the extender.tony_park wrote:Whats your tuner, tv signal source, and running any 3rd party software?
Here is one thought. My network interface (gigabite) is built in to the mother board. I've read some people have had sucess speeding things up and getting rid of the "network issue" when they went with an intel network card to replace the one bonded to the mother board. Anyone have any experince with this?

I also have the same delay in tuning. 3 seconds really isn't bad if you consider that the extender has to tell your htpc to tune another channel then pipe that back to your extender through the network. Intel NIC's are known to be good from what I have heard. I have not tried one as of yet though.

I've never experienced any significant delay on my extenders. They are definitely a little bit slower than the PC when navigating menus and such, but everything else works very well. My guess would be your network adapter, your network adapter settings, or your switch(es). The ability for your switch to pass the packets rapidly without adding any significant latency, is very important.
You said that you have everything wired gigabit Ethernet, right? Do you have daisy-chained switches or anything like that?

No sir. Everything is direct to the router via gigabite cables. I'm trying a new Intel Card. I'll let you all know how that shakes out.barnabas1969 wrote:I've never experienced any significant delay on my extenders. Have you tried the network tuning on the extender? When you run the tests, what level does it show?

Running Ultimate 64 Bit. I installed the Inel NID card. It did speed things up quite a bit. Specifically, moving around the Media Center UI is a lot snappier.barnabas1969 wrote:pduncan1963, what edition of Windows 7 are you running... Home Premium/Professional/Ultimate, and how many bits, 64/32?
Makes me wonder what this setup will be like in Windows 8 since machine memory is suppose to be better managed.
