Urgent: WMC down, wife mad!

I was having an issue where WMC (win7) kept crashing on WMC boot. I rebooted the computer, was able to use WMC fine. Then it started recording shows (red dot icon in epg) but they would not show in my recordings. Accessing them while they were being “recorded” would result in seeing the live program and not being able to rewind. They were not actually being recorded. WMC keeps crashing again.

I believe the problem may be related to still being on EPG 1.1.3, so I went and downloaded the new version from GitHub. I saw a note saying you can just run the setup exe and it should update. I used the exe for the full install (mistake) because now I have both EPG123 versions running simultaneously. Both the install and the standalone are on the system and I am worried that uninstalling the new one will break the standalone version.

What do I do?

Your problem isn't related to EPG123, at least not directly. With a version that old, you probably weren't running garbage cleanup for you WMC database to keep it operational and stable.

For the latest install, go ahead and uninstall it and then install it again directing it to install to the same location as your portable install. Go ahead and delete your current scheduled task and create a new one. That will also be needed since the newer versions save the mxf file in a different location.

Doing this now. Thanks for the lighting fast response! I thought I had garbage cleanup enabled. That is the indexing setting in WMC right?

No. Indexing is different.

The guide seems to be incomplete. Log file says error creating mxf file. Also, how do I enable garbage collection to avoid future issues?

Got past the error. Rebuilt the database. Ran epg123. WMC now has a completely blank guide. How do I fix this?

The epg123 client will run garbage collection every 5 days automatically, so nothing to do.

When you do a database rebuild, it creates a new database without guide listings. You just need to import the mxf file again... click the [Manual Import] button.
