my DVD drive has a 2 wire (red/black) power terminator. I know the drive works BC I tested it when I recieved this PC.
this DVD drive doesn't use a regular SATA power (like the SSD drive doe's).
new ATX PSU has a FDD 4pin which isn't properly keyed to fit the drive. I don't think this is a real old PC BC it has a I5 4 core CPU. thanks

As for the P2 port? A picture is worth a thousand words.

the image in post 17 is terminator was labled P2. I looked real close at the ATX 4+4 an saw the 2 sections jammed together. it was labled CPU.

I'll look again for the DVD terminator. thanks BTW she boots up in about 40 seconds so I'm pleased w/ that. plan to sit case ontop of PSU.will post image when done.

thanks

According to Dell, the P2 is in fact a 12 volt CPU port. The ATX 4+4 needs to be divided into two 4 pin cables. These normally just slide apart. One connects to the P2 port and the other will simply be unused.

Your picture isn't very clear but that "appears" to be a SATA drive. If so... The connections would be as shown in this picture and for the power you'd use The "SATA (4 Pin)" from your new power supply.

...and the small "two wire" cable (which appears to be the wrong cable) you're referencing would be a SATA cable that would plug in to one of the SATA ports on the motherboard as shown in this picture.

I can't add more than three links per post. I used Dell's manual for the Optiplex 7010 (DT) for the technical specs and the diagrams. It's a really good reference document!

thats good I have the wire connected correctly, yes just left the other half unused.

I'll take better images when I relocate the PSU an tape to bottom of case still deciding on the relocation position, it's just sitting outside case right now.

the DVD drive is a SATA my image the SATA cable connects to the right an the red/black cable to left. will report w/ better image.

I can say the FDD 4 pin power cable isn't keyed porperly to fit the DVD drive thanks

If it's a SATA drive, then the "smaller" cable is the SATA data transfer cable that plugs into the SATA port(s) on the motherboard. The larger side is the "power" port.

I don't ever remember seeing a "two-wire" SATA data cable. All the ones I've ever see have been solid. Of course... I could be wrong.

SATA connectors have been standardized since the early to mid 2000s. The "SATA (4 Pin)" from your power supply is keyed correctly, you just need to get it in the proper orientation.

That looks like slimline laptop DVD drive. They use a smaller connector called a slimline connector which combines the power and data cables into one plug. You can buy adapters for standard desktop power supplies to fit onto that type of drive.

You're most likely correct. I'm just going by the photo and descriptions OP has provided. It "appears" that he's trying to plug in a power connector to the data port and a molex connector to the SATA power port.

Zoomed image provided by OP -> https://imgur.com/enPOPUD

Neither will work. OP said in a prior post:

My question is this... If it was in the system, where's the original cabling?
