Since the new TV season started, I've been having trouble with Law & Order recordings getting split into 3 segments.
The first is 55 minutes, the second is 5 minutes, and the third is 12 minutes. The total length is correct as I have my recordings configured to start 2 minutes early and end 10 minutes late, but a few seconds can be lost at a critical point near the end of the episode when the first segment ends and the next one starts.
Looking at the recording history, the reasons are pretty consistent each week. For this week's episode, I have the following partial recording message sequence:
Segment #1: "Recording of Law & Order: s22e05 12 Seconds began as scheduled on 10/27/2022 7:58:01 PM and stopped early on 10/27/2022 8:53:01 PM due to a schedule change."
Segment #2: "Recording of Law & Order: s22e05 12 Seconds began late on 10/27/2022 8:53:04 PM due to a temporary failure caused by either a system malfunction or a power loss and stopped early on 10/27/2022 8:56:01 PM due to a schedule change."
Segment #3: "Recording of Law & Order: s22e05 12 Seconds began late on 10/27/2022 8:58:10 PM due to a temporary failure caused by either a system malfunction or a power loss and stopped on 10/27/2022 9:10:00 PM."
The other 2 Law & Order series (SVU and Organized Crime) both record fine every week on the same channel. Every other scheduled recording has also been recording without any issues. I don't have any recordings starting at 8:53 PM that could possibly be stealing the tuner. This is recording on OTA SiliconDust tuners on a channel with a consistently strong signal, but I also have SiliconDust CableCard tuners configured.
I tried canceling the series for Law & Order and adding it back in this week and that didn't make any difference.
Any ideas?

I've seen this happen if you are updating the guide data while recording a scheduled show.
EPG123 should not normally update the guide if there are scheduled recordings in progress, or if there is a scheduled recording that will start recording within 10 minutes, so unless you bypassed this, it is probably not the issue here.
Another possibility is here, which is regarding the old WMC update that we don't use anymore (since EPG123 replaced it). You enable it (if disabled), change the times to a window when recordings are not normally being done, then uncheck it again. I have no idea why or if this actually works (I would think it should do nothing because I think Gary disables the old updates), but it seemed to have worked for that person.

Hmm, other recordings at the same time are fine, so I suspect something else is at fault, but thanks for the response.

I changed the recording options for this show last week from an OTA channel to a CableCard channel to switch which tuners get used and the recording resulted in a single 72 minute segment, as it should be. Very strange as there definitely isn’t a shortage of tuners or anything of that sort.

I might suspect a problem with the OTA tuner(s) then.

No other recordings, many of which use the same OTA tuners, have had the same issue. It’s only that 1 show and doesn’t seem to be a reception issue or anything like that as JRiver Media Center has been recording the same show from OTA tuners without any problems. The other 2 Law & Order series record just fine on the OTA tuners.
