Set the Internet always on setting to No for TV Setup. Refer to the 8.9.0 download page.

Can you use epg collector with 8.9 as epg123 doesn't work for me.

With a little more detail, we might be able to help you out with EPG123.

You seem to have to purchase epg123 direct schedules where as epg collector is free have you limited your version of Wmc to only work with epg123 as now epg collector displays no data available on all channels where as If I use v13x64 it work fine. Unfortunately v13x64 doesnt seem to work with update 2H22. any help in getting either to fully work would be of great help.

Do whatever works for you, but 8.9.0 "supports" everything the other versions do. It is simply WMC repackaged into an msi.

WMC V13 was created using the files from V12 with a V8 installer script together with a few minor tweaks. There are also workarounds incorporated in the installation folder that restore the versions of system files and the registry entries that are needed for WMC to function. The installer in later releases of V13 automatically applies the workarounds to save having to apply them manually.

Successive changes were made to V8 to get round the issues MS caused with WMC by modifying Windows by storing the original files in the WMC folder along with modified manifests. They are used exclusively by WMC rather than being shared system files.

The result is an altogether much more elegant solution that can sometimes survive Windows Updates that would break old versions including V13.

V8.8.5 works perfectly for most people and was my recommended package until Gary created 8.9, which basically changes the way the WMC package is installed and uninstalled.

I believe the result is the best WMC installer yet.

There is a but coming.

I have had reports from various people that V13 is the only version that will work in certain circumstances,

It seems to me that certain older software including tuner drivers and WMC add-ons require the original files (maybe even in the Windows system folder) and all the original registry entries to function.

What is not clear to me is whether that is because those packages are using undocumented features or because V8.8.5 and V8.9 don't faithfully replicate an old version of Windows with WMC V12 installed.

There are so many variables due to the sheer number of changes made to both the operating system and the WMC package over the years that it is hard to tell.

Can you explain in what way it doesn't work for you?

I was using it on 22H2 recently and wasn't aware of any problems.

You can't get v13 working once you do an in place 2H22 upgrade via creation tool. It doesn't load even after uninstalling it and reinstalling wmc even after trying Gary's version which works but the epg doesn't work. But once I revert to 2H21 V13 works without issue.

When you install v13 on a Windows 10 2H22 pc it installs but when you try and open it there is a blue circle next to the cursor and nothing happens I even tried running it under compatibility mode windows 7 as admin and nothing happens when I revert to 2H21 it works perfectly.

V13 works perfectly in 2H21 but it doesn't load in 2H22

V8.9.0 installs and works on 2H22 but you can't use the epg.

If you can update v13 to work in 2H22

You might think you are giving details of the issue, but you are really not.

I'll start with 8.9.0:
1. Did you perform TV Setup in WMC before import the mxf file from epg collector?
2. When you performed TV Setup, did you accept the program guide terms of service?
3. If you did not accept the program guide terms of service, did you apply the registry settings need to display the TV 'guide' tile?
4. Are your guide listings imported from epg collector mapped to your tuner channels?

With V13:
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Is your 22H2 PC clean? Meaning are there any remnants from past WMC install attempts still on the system?

Interesting.
V8.9.0
Q1 Yes
Q2 clicked the only radio button which says no
Q3 what registry settings where are these located.
Q4 yes they are mapped at present I run a scan (45mins) the load wmc and the guide is automatically populated

V13
I do a complete wipe so each time it's reinstalled it's fresh.
