EPG123: Cannot get the TV schedule

#1

Post by GreenButton_for_MJ » Thu Jan 02, 2020 5:40 am

We are trying to make EPG123 work with Windows Media Center. There is no Windows Media Center TV guide. We cannot recommend EPG123 to customers and city officials if we cannot get it to function.

The User interface of EPG123 is the worst I've seen in more than 30 years of doing computer technical support.

Here is our latest trace log:

Try reading the installation instructions. That page even has a video as an aid.

Good or bad interface, it is functional.

If you need any help, ask a question. The trace.log excerpt you show is just you opening the configuration GUI.

I see that 30 years of experience has apparently taught you that the best way to get help is to insult the person to whom you are asking for help.

Did you follow the step by step instructions?

EPG123 is designed to be functional, it was not designed for the sole purpose of winning UI beauty pageants. EPG123 is something you setup once and in most cases leave it alone (set it and forget it). The target audience is WMC/HTPC enthusiasts, not do-do-do average end users.

Moreover, 30 years of computer technical support should have thought you to be patient, be polite, and read the manual. ;)

Garyan2,

Thanks for your quick response. I will do what you said.

Last week I helped a friend improve his resume. My friend was very thankful.

I've been helping people write better resumes for more than 30 years. That experience helps me be a better writer.

I would very much like to work with you in improving the instructions for EPG123.

We will study the instructions again. Yesterday we had a schedule. Some channels were missing. When we tried to add the missing channels, the schedule disappeared. It has not returned, and I don't know what to do.

Thanks again for your attention,

MJ

When you say schedule, do you mean the guide? I'm trying to visualize what you are describing.

I would help with anything necessary to communicate more easily and clearly.

Yes, I meant the guide, apparently. The listing of TV channels and shows, the TV schedule.

Windows Media Center often pops up a window saying that the schedule needs updating. Apparently that doesn't update the EPG123 schedule.

That is a GOOD example of what can be made easier. How can we communicate better to everyone? Is "Guide" the same as TV schedule? Or something different?

Thanks for your response,

MJ
