Missing Icon on the Start Screen
I turned a friend onto epg123, and he followed the steps and got it working, except he said he did not get the epg123 Icon on the start screen in WMC. The guide data is loaded. This was just last night, and he did not yet have an automated guide update run yet. Will a scheduled epg123 guide update make the icon show up, or is there something else he needs to do? Thanks!

It should have showed up first time, though it will only show/update when WMC is opened. The icon is created after EPG123 imports the MXF file into WMC... have you verified that your friend successfully setup EPG123?

Yes, I confirmed with him that everything went fine with the setup, and that he had new guide data. I will ask him to close and restart WMC when he gets home from work later. Thanks!

Related question: Does that icon also show on Extenders, or only the main WMC PC?

That one does not show on extenders. You can, however, get it to show in the guide on both the HTPC and the extenders. In the epg123.cfg file, edit the following:
If you change the 'none' value to 'light', then there will be an icon in the guide just below the time.
Code: Select all
<!-- BrandLogoImage: Allowed values are 'none', 'light', and 'dark'. -->
<BrandLogoImage>none</BrandLogoImage>

Just installed epg123 and verified the the epg is epg123 v1.3.1 in the wmc guide listing. When I open the guide listing, I don’t see the above color, tv posters and tv logos. All I see is text.
I also did a “clear cache” and save/exit.
What do I need to do?

For the colored programs (movie, kids, news, special), you need to enable color in WMC by Tasks->settings->TV->Guide->Guide Page Options and enable the 'Apply colored backgrounds to shows, based on their category' option.
Other than that, I'm going to need more information. Do you have 'Include station logos' enabled? For program images, if you are using EPG123, then they should be there as long as your HTPC has access to the internet to download them.

Colored programs is now working.
Enabled ‘include station logos’ is checked and still not working.
No program images. The HTPC has internet access but it is going through a VPN.
What do you want me to try next?

The station logos won't show until you do another [Save & Execute]... as long as you can download them.
Can you remove it from the VPN to see if that is affecting it? Maybe Schedules Direct does some access blocking.

I did another [Save& Execute] and it always looked like it was downloading properly. Is there an epg123 file I can check to see if images were downloaded?
I will do the non-vpn route tomorrow. Thanks and good night. Patrick

WMC does the downloading as required and they go into the internet cache I believe. You can check the C:\ProgramData\GaRyan2\epg123\logos folder to see if anything is there. If not, then EPG123 was not able to download the logos. There is probably something in the trace.log file to say as much... click the [View Log] button.

I suspect Schedules Direct has blocked ranges of IP addresses that are excessively downloading images. A few months back, there was some discussion concerning images with this statement: "there are just too many non-subscribers using us for images, and it's not sustainable, so we need to ensure that we keep a handle on costs." This may be part of that answer.

I did the non vpn method and the logos were found in the directory. One issue remains. My tv logos never appear next to the channel number. Any suggestions?

You need to run a [Save & Execute] as well as import the file into WMC to see the logos.

I did do [Save & Execute] which did a 10 step build and then an automatic import into WMC.

and 'Include station logos' was enabled?
Do you see the call signs in text beside the channel numbers?

If the logos are not present, and 'Include station logos' is enabled, and the new MXF file was imported into WMC, then I would suggest opening the client [Tweak WMC] form and click the [Remove] button to remove all logos.
I'm just wondering if the initial logo entries being linked to a non-existent file caused this problem. Doing the above should "reset" that.

Gary, it is resolved and I see TV station logos! Thank you very much. I did a [Remove] and did another [Save & Execute]. It worked using a non-VPN connection.
After, I did the [Remove] and before doing a [Save & Execute], i did look at ProgramData's logos and sdlogos directory. Nothing seemed to be removed. I am not sure why.
Anyway, you may want to add to your install documentation with a NOTICE about VPNs. Maybe a comment about doing a non-VPN epg123 install first.
I am recommending epg123 to my work colleagues with WMC boxes.
Thanks again.

My WMC7 system (using EPG123) has been running a VPN 24/7 for quite a few years. I've never had any issues using SD or EPG123.patrick0525 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 3:01 pmIt worked using a non-VPN connection... Anyway, you may want to add to your install documentation with a NOTICE about VPNs.
Is there any way to confirm that SD is blocking ranges of IPs?
