Music file playback from WHS1 to Windows phone 7?

Hi

currently I have an iPhone 3GS, but when my contract runs out later this year, I'm looking to replace it with a WP7, something like a Lumia 800, but curious as to whether the same is possible as I have on the iphone.

At the moment, I have all our music stored on our WHS v1, which is running itunes via iHomeServer, so basically, I can connect to the iTunes installed on my server, and play any files that are stored there, meaning when I'm at home, I don't need to have all music files I'm wanting to play, on the phone. Is the same possible on the WP7, either out of the box, or with additional software?

If so, please can you provide details on how to go about it?

Thanks
Tony

I don't use WHS, but do stream music to my WP7. I use Remote Potato on my 7MC machine as the server for this. There are a couple of WP7 apps that will connect to RP, but I just stream through the browser. Not brilliant, but it works.

Thanks Mark :-)

Does the situation change with whs2011? I'm thinking of a new server, using a load of old discs as we now have an nice big case going spare... anything for 2011?

Hi Tony,

there's a dedicated (free) app for WHS2011:

There is also a (not free) app for WHS v1:

I'd also recommend trying Media Buddy or Smart Potato if you have Remote Potato installed.
