Vista4Cast ?

#1

Post by Tester » Thu Dec 29, 2011 5:14 pm

My latest ( old ) version of Vista4Cast recently stopped working. The editor still works fine and will load zip code data, but the MCE extender service no longer works.

Anyone experiencing the same issue ?

Anyone know how to contact the developer PeteT ?

Thanks

The weather channel recently changed the api for the content. If vista4cast has no option to get content from anywhere else you may be out of luck. If you look on this forum there are many of us discussing heatwave as it has the same issue.

I am going to have a go getting another service working with vista4cast. I was hopeing to get this done over Christmas but i didn't find the time.

I am going to rename it to another name? currently thinking weather4cast? but i am open to suggestions :)

I would suggest MC4Cast. weather4cast almost implies it has been upgraded to work on other platforms.

I'd suggest the weatherunderground api as a source. It looks pretty comprehensive and on the pricing page it says you can contact them for a free api key if your a non-commercial developer.

I like the MC4cast name too! Not to sidetrack, but I have limited experience with vista4cast, do you feel it is easier to get it up and running as opposed to writing something that would store the current weather info in a xml format that heatwave would read? It seems the part of heatwave that is the UI still works fine, it is just missing current weather data.

I guess this would be the same for both heatwave and vista4cast, so whichever one is easier to fix….

I like MC4cast. I actually think that this was one of the name i originally thought of when i decided in vista4cast.

I have registered on the wunderground site for access to the api and i am also going to look at yahoo weather as well :)
