Good remote for extenders
I am looking for a remote control to use with my xbox 360 and HTPC. Any recommendations? I found this one but it does not work with an xbox:

Price is the main factor here so if someone could recommend the best bang for the buck, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks everyone!

Bear in mind I simply watch TV, with no AV receivers or anything fancy in the middle.
That being said, the previous gen MS Universal Media Remote for XBox works great:

The Logitech Harmony remotes work great. They have a Xbox remote as well. They do cost a bit more but they do work very well.

Semi-related to this topic - what IR reciver do you use for your Logitech? They (edit: Logitech, I mean) don't sell IR receivers, do they?newfiend wrote:The Logitech Harmony remotes work great. They have a Xbox remote as well. They do cost a bit more but they do work very well.

All you need is a Microsoft RC6 IR Receiver. You can can get a HP branded one on eBay for dirt cheep. They work with MC perfect. You just program the Logitech remote to work with the a windows media center pc.. And poof instant media media center remote. The Xbox already has a built in IR receiver so no need for one for that.

I have a Xbox slim and bought the Xbox remote was @ 19.99 works well on the Xbox and Media center and has the ability to turn on and off the TV as well as the Xbox. So far works perfect for me. Only thing I wish it had was a stop button on it.. But not a deal breaker as you can always pause what ever your doing and switch tasks..

I bought a mc remote on newegg.. It didn't do all the functions correctly and I got frustrated and ditched it. The Logitech remotes can be programmed to what ever you want.. I have a harmony one. Love it. Are you looking for a remote to run on a htpc and Xbox in the same room?

Anyone know which company manufactured the original Windows peanut style remote with the TV power button?

Sort of. The Xbox will be my media extender. the HTPC will be in another room. So the Xbox will be replacing my current STB. The remote will need to nicely navigate the WMC menus, provide DVR viewing capability, etc. Pretty much anything TV related that my current Fios remote can do.newfiend wrote:I bought a mc remote on newegg.. Do you want the remote to be able to operate just the Xbox? Or the htpc too? If you want both the harmony remote will be best .. If you just want a a remote for the Xbox and your display on and off check out the new small black Xbox remote. That should do that. If you plan on expanding your set up to include a avr in the future then the Logitech would be better as it will control multiple pieces of equipment where the Xbox remote is limited to the tv and Xbox only. And its under $25.00.

Cheap Harmony works fine as well, just like the XBox Universal Media Remote. My Harmony 300 is a tad awkward compared to the XBox remote, but just a tad.
However, I discovered quite by accident that the $40 I spent on a couple of XBox Universal Media Remotes--the beige ones--made WAF go up. I had other remotes floating around, and I stick with my Harmonys because I know them very well and have gotten used to them, but the rest of the family didn't get into it until the XBox remotes appeared.
