i've got it on one xbox so far; haven't seen the update prompt on any of my others yet.

i haven't played around with it much, but its slow, and i've run into a few problems using hulu.

none of the new video services are available, but it looks like several are on the way. many of the same services i've seen available on the roku box.

Got my update last night. Its a bit quirky still.. I think once the update is all rolled out and the backend services are in place it will work pretty well. Had an issue with Bing search not working correctly and connecting to Xbox live was difficult at best. Hoping for a smoother experience later tonight.

Same here. Man XBOX Live was a bear to connect to last night! But, things seem to be calming down today. Now, get us access to all that promised TV content! :)

How is it integrating to Media Center, still the same?

Haven't had an opportunity to really dig into bitrates yet; but, it now sees .WTV files & plays them back w/o any issues. It also shows .M2TS files now but I cant get any to playback yet.

There is a new square tile icon for WMC in the Video apps area I think you click that and WMC launches just the same.

Just updated my Xbox and it's pretty quick. I have 2 systems on the network, 1 is used for the extender and that plays all the .wtv files on that system without actually connecting to Windows Media Center.
However, the second system (which also has some recorded .wtv files) will play .mkv and .avi files fine but even though it shows the thumbnail of the .wtv files, when it tries to open those, I get an error message saying it can't open it or it's not a compatible file. Is this because that system is not registered to be used as an extender? I would think that it would open .wtv files in the video library just as the 'extender' system does.

You would think if they added WTV playback support to the dashboard it would work on all xboxes and not just ones that have been paired as an extender. Did you have to install any additional media updates for the WTV files to start playing? Like when they added avi and mp4 playback it prompted you to install updates.
So is mkv support new? I guess it is I don't remember the dashboard playing them before.

I admit I've not kept up to date with any xbox updates and when my son is home from college, he may have allowed some updates but I couldn't get mkv to work before the new dashboard update happened.
What I saw today was a small and quick update, then a reboot followed by a larger update but I didn't see any reboot of the second update. I went right to my network, tried both computers to see what would and wouldn't play.
Both systems recorded the same shows (don't ask) and the extender system played WMC recorded .wtv files right away while the other said 'opening' and then the error. I'll have to write down the exact error and see what shows up when I google it.
Still, I'm happy with the changes and more happy that it wasn't nearly as metro as I thought it would be.

I rarely access local video content using the XBOX dashboard video player. As the dashboard players for locally stored media are terrible compared to MCE both in how they look and what they play. The dashboard is still very picky about what files it will play, e.g. even AVI files in the same TV Series folder, some seasons play some don't. (AVI FourCC Changer can usually fix this) Yet the same AVI files that are not playing in the dashboard play OK in Media Center Extender (My Movies TV Library).

However when I do use the dashboard video player I have WMP11 installed on my WHSV1 box. I just added my HD (MKV) and Recorded TV folders in to the WMP11 Video library so the XBOX could see these video folders.

I could see the HD folder on the dashboard but not the Recorded TV folder. In the HD folder I could see 3 movies listed. All of these where hi-res AVI's I could not see any of the MKV files listed at all. Same 3 movies showed in WMP11.

So I think I need to hack WMP11 on the WHS to be able to display MKV files.

Also can you display / play WTV files in WMP11 ?

Needs some more work on my system to test this.
