Tuner Not Found - Nova-t & HDS2
Hello,
I hope someone can help. I installed 2x Nova-t cards and a HD S2 card into an already existing Media Centre (all 3 cards pci). When going into TV Setup in MC I got the message "Tuner Not Found". Id installed the latest drivers from the Hauppauge site.
I figured it wouldnt take long to do a reinstall of the OS so Ive just done that (win7 64 bit) and Im still getting the same issue.
Does anyone have any ideas why MC isnt seeing the cards? They are ok in device manager
Thanks in advance!!

How many tuners were in the system before you added the additional tuners? WMC 7 has a 4 tuner limit for each tuner type (CableCard, ClearQAM, DVB-T). My guess is that you are hitting the limit. You need to install TunerSalad to increase the limit to 12 tuners.

DVB-T and DVB-S are classed as separate tuner types so you can have four of each by default.
Have you tried moving the cards to different slots / installing them one by one and see if MC picks them up that way?
Did the cards come with TV software that you can try - just to make sure the cards are working OK?
I've used Virtualdub in the past to check if tuners are working if you fancy giving it a try.
Let us know how it's going.

The s2 and nova cards aren't PCI express I dare say that might represent a problem...

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the quick replies. As an edit they are an fact PCI cards and not PCI-e.
I have tried different slots, and I currently have:-
2 x NOVA-T PCI
1 x NOVA HD S2
Ive used these cards in a 7MC before and not long moved them to a new box to make the most of a 64bit chip (and the extra RAM), so I know the combination shouldnt be an issue.
Thanks!

Thanks for the ideas guys - heres what I have tried so far-
- Tried different PCI slots, swapped all 3 cards around, tried different combinations of all cards to just one
- Tried the default MS drivers (removing all Hauppauge software etc)
- MB firmare is up to date, and other PCI cards work ok
- Downloaded Virtualdub. Hauppague cards show in list of capture devices. In create AVI when I select capture video I get a message "Unable to start video capture". Im not sure how I would tell it what channel to select on card?

Im not sure that the TV cards can be buggered, not all 3 of them.
In terms of the MB, is it possible that its broken but yet other PCI cards can all work ok? And also the Hauppauge devices show up fine and as working in the device manager?
Of course I have my fingers crossed none of the above is broken!!

Yea without a doubt, Ive run the 2 Nova-t cards on a lower spec PSU before, never in 64bit however (but that shouldnt make any difference I shouldnt have thought)

Makes a difference to my Nova-t500 It frequently disappears after resuming from sleep - there are complaints on the Hauppauge forum from others with the same problem. I've a feeling (don't quote me though!) that I also had a problem with the card not appearing when I built my PC. From memory, the windows update driver that got installed wouldn't see the card but a driver from the hauppauge site did (even though it appeared to be older).leom_h wrote:Yea without a doubt, Ive run the 2 Nova-t cards on a lower spec PSU before, never in 64bit however (but that shouldnt make any difference I shouldnt have thought)

Don't know if this helps but when I set up my HTPC I make sure it's not connected to my network because I don't want it to download hauppauge drivers for my cards from Windows Update. I then manually install the already downloaded updated drivers obtained from haups site.

This is a dreadful error, and almost impossible to pin down. I got so fed up I went and bought a brand new Black Gold quad tuner, and installed from a clean installation (format c:) - however the Black Gold has similair issues. After tearing my hair out with that, I put the Novas back in again, and not had a problem since.
Very difficult to recreate the error, as you can see a format does not always fix it - and it is just pot luck.
