Ceton 4 USB not recording full show

#1

Post by ZippyTheChicken » Thu Jul 02, 2015 7:51 am

recently i have been having a problem that shows and movies are not being fully recorded.

Some tv shows i might only get 10 or 15 minutes
and Movies I often lose the beginning or the end of it

I have a Ceton 4 USB with latest firmware
Running Windows 7 on an i5

Sometimes I do consume some processes because MCEBuddy is processing videos
yes the raw wtv files are shortened its not just comskip getting hungry

I am thinking maybe i should delete all the data on recorded shows and movies
my file seems to be rather large I guess because WMC really lags when i try to add a movie.
Like it can take 3-5 minutes maybe for it to respond if there are confilcts

All I have is movies set to record right now and a couple shows i added back that are set to record only if there is no conflict.

and actually last night I was trying to record one show and it recorded small chunks of pondarosa not sure what that was about but its not in my schedule to record.

Last time that happened to me, play ready was the culprit.

The Ceton tuner doesn't record shows.

Your basic premise is faulty.

IDK my mcepg2-3.db file is 290MB which seems kinda large
I am guessing that is the schedule for the next 10 days

not sure where the previously recorded shows db is

I would just like to empty all those Databases and start over since I am primarely recording movies right now and when I go back to recording shows i probably will record different ones.. Although a backup would probably be good too.

I thought I remember seeing a tool for this

My db is over 460MB, and I have no issues or slowness. I don't see how that could possibly cut your recordings short anyway. It's probably a DRM issue as I said or signal strength problems.

These are completed recordings
shortest 2mins.. then you get down to the movies and they are cut short too

30min shows
threes company , parks, i dream

hour shows
startrek

bewitched at the bottom is the movie so is the last startrek

I was thinking if the db is so big that it causes serious lag when adding a show 3-5 minutes
then maybe its having trouble starting the recording because its looking up in the db what it should record

So how to i get rid of the db for previously recorded shows?
and the proper way to clear the schedule db and any other db?

could be signal idk .. i will look into that

Your basic premise is faulty. You communicated that you thought the Ceton tuner was not recording properly. It's tough to communicate when you start with completely faulty premises. There's nowhere to go with that.

ok so while i was making the following screenshots of my tuner signals

there was one tuner active recording abraham lincoln vampire hunter

then it died at 21 minutes

So I open MediaCenter and tune to that station and i get live TV video

then I press Record

and its been hanging for half an hour since right after i press record... with the circle glass of hate

--------------------------------------------

Tuner Signals

Channel 820 is FoxNews HD as you can see first 3 open tuners tune to that during signal test

Image

Image

Image

-------------------

TUNER 4 IS RECORDING VAMPIRE HUNTER

Image

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so then it kills Vampire Hunter for some random reason

I go in and see if I can tune to Vampire Hunter and I can

Image

I press RECORD on Vampire Hunter to see if it will record and get the WAITING Circle of Hate

Image

6:34 press record

IT IS NOW 6:59 and it still has not started Recording and ALL 4 TUNERS ARE OPEN AND READY FOR USE

seems like a MCE Problem to me

ok so it hung with media center open for half an hour

then i went into Task Manager and Killed Media Center and it sat and lagged

Media Center Finally died at 7:12pm after hanging at 6:34pm

it took 12 minutes just to die

ehsched.exe was at 25% CPU and working.. probably doing Database lookups to see if it could start recording

ehrecvr.exe is using 2% CPU recording Cheech and Chong and MASH .. other 2 tuners open

well I deleted the database and went through setup again and things seem much much better so far.

yesterday AMC was having a Rocky Marathon so i got them all and they all recorded fully

To delete the database i had to boot into Win7 Safe Mode .. go to the user/.../ehome directory and deleted the db and the folder

unfortunately because I have a Wireless Keyboard you cant press F8 to boot into safe mode
so i had to crash my computer by pressing the reset button
then when i restarted it presented the safe mode menu

You actually have to be inside windows when you press reset or it will boot with only recovery options if you are at login when you reset.

anyway so far so good...

MCE really needs to be redesigned .. when i was reading about the DB it seems everything is stored in that one DB .. your history and everything..

probably why it was lagging so bad.

So I added a couple series and also a bunch of movies for the next couple weeks .. hopefully everything will be fine but I will report back for anyone reading this in the future that might need a guide how to fix this problem.

a) you have a bluetooth keyboard, not just a wireless keyboard--that's your problem. BT requires that the BT drivers be running, which means Windows must be running. If your kb were just a 2.4GHz wireless kb with its own USB adapter, it works just like a wired keyboard.

b) you don't have to be in safe mode to delete the db. You simply have to stop the WMC service. You can do that in services or in task manager, then the db is released and you can delete it and simply restart the computer.

I've had a couple problems with that db now and then; but, never what you've described. WMC has crashed because of that db, the result of which is simply any knowledge of existing recordings being part of a series. The series recording request itself is still there, and everything continues to record just fine.

Ok so I just wanted to follow up on the problem I had in case someone can learn from it in the future.

More so for me if I forget and need help again . . :)

anyway no I don't have a bluetooth keyboard and yes you must be in safe mode to kill the appropriate WMC Services because they are set to autoReStart so you kill them and they launch again...
the work around which is not as good is to open control panel go into scheduled tasks and turn off all the Media Center Tasks
then reboot and kill the services then delete the DB then turn the scheduled tasks on again and reboot AGAIN.. ..
booting into safe mode by closing all your apps and hitting the reset button is easier
so the previous poster is incorrect in both replies.

ok so back to why I am here

After deleting the Database and folder I was able to record shows without error.

It seems that my previously recorded list on top of my scheduled list and in addition to the tv guide info is just too much and it got corrupted.

It seems some fool at MS decided to put all that info in one db ... at the very least they should use 3 for this info because doing a scheduled tv guide update can cause problems for people.. I would bet thats where mine got corrupted.. I may have rebooted during a guide update..

Anyway things work pretty much perfectly now..
Shows and movies record at the right time and length
Also I am pretty much dedicated to movies only at this point and have only about ten series that record about 15 shows a day.

I am not overloading my tuners all day but during primetime they are normally maxed out all 4 recording something.
