Xbox extender and HDHomerunPrime issues (newbie)

#1

Post by justnick94 » Wed Apr 29, 2015 12:02 am

I am brand new to Windows Media Center and just finished my setup (with the help from a family friend) last month. Have been enjoying it on my PC in the living room and just got around to trying to set up my xbox. Before I get into what I have tried let me just explain my setup/connection:

Wired cat6 ethernet for both pc and xbox
router TP-Link N750
switch TP-LINK TL-SG1024 (Unmanaged)
PC is connected to homegroup
Media Sharing enabled and advanced sharing set to allow discovery and such
All Media Center firewall exceptions enabled

So far all I have done is restart both enough to wear our components and made sure all the neccessary services were set to automatic (from manual)
UPnP Device Host
Media Center Extender

When I go to my xbox and start looking for Windows Media Center PCs on the network it fails to find any however when I go to settings > Computers the PC shows up here and I am able to connect to it (via testing)

Again I am new to the Windows Media Center Community so I apologize if I am doing something wrong and would gladly accept any feedback.

Now my other issue is with my HDHomerunPrimes (with CableCards)

This is a separate issue I know but I figured I would just throw together

These are the 3 tuner adapters but in WMC I only see 4 total (prime1 -0, prime1 -1, prime2 -0, prime2 -1) or something similar

I used TunerSalad and have a max amount of 8

Thank you in advance

What happens when your 360 is on, and you go onto your PC and under tasks try to set up an extender?

It asks for a code which I get from the Xbox. After I enter the code it shows a progress screen but stops at the second point (contacting)

Reboot everything.

From the xbox make sure it can see the mediacenter. Do a test connection to mediacenter (not sure exact words).

Before I reboot, yes the xbox can see the PC and I test the connection and all checks out.

Remove any extenders in the media center, similar to where you add them remove them if they exist.

Also are the media center and xbox both on the switch, not the router?

Do you have another switch laying around that you can try? Something simpler? The one you have has a lot of energy saving features. Don't think it would matter but I am running out of ideas.

Also have you reset all network equipment as well?

Unfortunately I do not have any spare switches lying around. I actually haven't reset all network equipment but i'll do that right now.

Unplugged the switch, turned off the router, and restarted both the PC and the Xbox. Still I get the same error. Would it help if I had the newer slim?

I don't think it matters. But did you put them both into the router? And did you have any stale extenders that you could remove?

I'll try both into router, but unfortunately i'll have to do it when I return from work later tonight. Thank you for all your help thus far and I hope the router will do the trick.
