Did the latest Windows Updates break WMC tuners?
I have a Ceten 4 Channel PCIe InfiniTV, and WMC has been having tuner problems for the past 3 days, In 3/11,I see there was a series of patches that were loaded, and I was wondering if anyone knows if any of them broke Tuning - when I go to each channel, it says the tuner can't get a signal. Ceton diagnostics says signal strength is -14db

I did restore the PC back to a restore point set on 3/9, and the tuners work, so it is one of the patches that came out this week.

Good catch.
This reinforces my stand that one should never let updates automatically come down to a working WMC system. If it's working, don't fix it.

If you have a dual boot setup there was a KB that borked things. My laptop had two failed updates, blue screened once unattended and downloaded a fix patch the following day. Not sure of KB number am out right now.

Back home. Here's more info.
May or may not be related to your woes.
FWIW my HTPC (Single OS boot) has not had problems.

I've recently been having issues where Media Center (ehshell) would inexplicably hang. As with dnabsuh, I went back to a restore point of 3/9, and the issues went away, so it's almost definitely one of the 3/11 patches that broke my Media Center. FWIW, I run Win7Pro, 64bit.

My tuners broke around the time you posted this and I don't even have updates turned on in Windows 8.
I do have WMC set to automatically download data, so that may be what did it. I fixed it pretty quickly by changing some permissions in the EHRCVR service.

Care to share what you did? I started having intermittent problems with tuners (HDHomerun Prime); perhaps your changes will help fix that.LuckyDay wrote:I fixed it pretty quickly by changing some permissions in the EHRCVR service.

I have to amend my post of 3/16. Ehshell now hangs regularly, plus I have intermittent events where scheduled programs aren't recorded. There's nothing in the Event Viewer that indicates that WMC even attempted to record these missed shows. The only thing I can see in the Event Viewer that might be remotely related are intermittent failures when WMC attempts to update the program guide.
