Still using Comskip and DVRMSToolbox. Still works....still automagically skips commercials when I play a recording. Still more reliable for me than ShowAnalyzer was when I used it.

I installed MCEBuddy 2x. For it to cut the commercial it seems it scans the file with comskip and then cuts it as it converts. It takes quite a while for the conversion.

Is comskip and DVRMST toolbox quicker? Does it have to create another file or convert?

Depends on how you set up DVRMSToolbox. I set it up to only scan the show and create an output file that contains the marked commercial segments. That file is then read by the DVRMSToolbox addin on the HTPC which then skips the marked segments during playback of the recording. The original recording is not changed in any way or transcoded as part of the process.

What you have is what I'm interested in. That would be much faster.

Is comskip and DVRMSToolbox all you need to install? I saw an article where there was a third piece of software to install with it. It was Dtb addin?

Yes, you also need the DTB addin, which is the piece that runs inside WMC to do the automatic commercial skipping during playback.

You can actually select the option to "Only detect ads" in MCEBuddy, this will just scan for commercials and create an EDL file for you. It's pretty quick (no conversions).
