Hi Richard. Thank you for the offer! There isn't one. Perhaps a little later in the game. It would certainly be fun to have a little extra for giveaways.

Keeping this site commercial free is of utmost importance. I hate adds whether popup or even static staring into my subconscious.

I agree absolutely...how that will work in the future remains to be seen.stonethecrows wrote:Keeping this site commercial free is of utmost importance. I hate adds whether popup or even static staring into my subconscious.

Congrats all. This site is really picking up. I'm finding myself checking for updates to the site, seeing how many members we are up to, and to reading valuable content. Cheers to a job well done at record pace.

I wonder how Microsoft ended up taking over the original GreenButton anyway? (and why) Most dedicated 3rd party forums such as this stay separate from the main company owning them for a reason. (more open/honest)

I think the guy who created the original TGB was called Daniel...wonder what he thinks of what's happened?

Originally, the moderators of TGB managed to get a member of the media center team to actually answer questions from members. They had this great "Ask Jessica" section, and she would check the website every morning. TGB became such a great feedback group for Microsoft, that they started getting more microsoft people involved, and changed the name of that forum to "Ask Microsoft". This big involvement in the community was part of the reason why MS chose to buy TGB, if i remember correctly. Then Jessica left, and the answering of questions slowly died down. TGBers started expecting more involvement in the development of Media Center, and most of their cries went unanswered. Last year, MS just changed the name of the forum to "Tell Microsoft" not to get our expectations up of getting a response to their feedback/questions.JazJon wrote:I wonder how Microsoft ended up taking over the original GreenButton anyway? Then they totally nuked the site [sorry, morphed] into what it is now.
Someone reasonably high up at MS, has absolutely no clue. About anything.

I get the feeling that a lot of the MS posters were moved to different projects - not heard from people like Mike Hayton in years now...

You are right Tony. Going back a bit now IIRC I had a pm from Mike saying he was moving (or being moved) to a different project...same as Jess Zaantony_park wrote:I get the feeling that a lot of the MS posters were moved to different projects - not heard from people like Mike Hayton in years now...

PeteBrown was still in touch with Mike - wherever they had him slaving away, he managed to get a few mcupdate switches for me a while back on the original button.
I remember the Jess days (from when I was lurking), it was great to have that amount of involvement from MS.

Yeah and she was actually involved every day including occasions when she was on 'vacation'. What was also useful was her feedback to and from the developers behind the scenes. She also got some of her team to visit and post. I would love to know what really happened there for it all to go the shape of a pear!!holidayboy wrote:PeteBrown was still in touch with Mike - wherever they had him slaving away, he managed to get a few mcupdate switches for me a while back on the original button.

You could be right. Obviously I don't know the guy but for some reason I really dislike him!! I think it may be all the rumours of him being a bully that maybe seeded my thoughts!richard1980 wrote:I wasn't around back then, but I suspect Steve happened....
