WD Red drives for recording drives

#1

Post by choliscott » Wed Oct 08, 2014 9:02 pm

Hi Everyone,

One of my recording drives decided to go bad (I was able to move the contents off) & looking for a replacement. I see Newegg is running a special on 4 - 3 TB WD red drives & was wondering if anybody had any luck with those drives for recording?

Thanks

I've had a pair of the WD20EFRX (2TB) in RAID 1 for recording and storage of media in my MythTV setup for 2 years now. Have not had any issues with that setup, been running 24/7 since placing the drives.

I've been running a 3TB Red since the first day running my MC system. Flawless for 17 months now.

Usually. In general we don't need 'special drives' for HTPCs.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Yes green drives are cheaper, but I think the warranty (depending on the brand) is shorter also.
