Windows 8 and the PCIe 6
im trying to figure out what my limitations are of using windows 8..
if my htpc box is windows 8, then i cant use network tuners at all, i cant share any tuners with any windows 7 machines/extenders?
a windows 8 box can only be used as a client fetching network tuners from a windows 7 htpc?

I don't use Win8, but I haven't heard anyone say that you can't use network tuners in Win8. I don't think that's a limitation.
The only extender that works correctly with Windows 8 is the XBox 360. So, as long as you have XBox 360's, you're fine with extenders.
If you have an HD HomeRun PRIME, or a Ceton InfiniTV-ETH, you should be able to share those with Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines without any problem. I do not know about the Ceton PCIe and USB tuners.

I assume that the above is in reference to sharing the PCIe and USB versions of the Ceton tuners. I can't help you with that.golfdude wrote:a windows 8 box can only be used as a client fetching network tuners from a windows 7 HTPC?

Yes, the network tuner limitation is with the InfiniTV pcie installed in a Win8 box. On Win7 you can bridge one or more of the tuners to share on the network with other PCs. This is a Win8 limitation from what I understand (no network bridging allowed).

Yes. Though as Barnabas mentioned this isn't a problem with Hdhomeruns or the InfiniTv ETH since they are network tuners to begin with.

I haven't tested this, but why wouldn't manually creating the Network Bridge work on a Windows 8 machine? I often had to manually create a Network Bridge to get my InfiniTV 4 working properly in Windows 7.
