AMD X4 640 board & CPU for WMC?

#1

Post by choliscott » Tue Mar 25, 2014 7:07 am

Hi All,

My brother was looking into using WMC. Looking at the spare parts, its seems that there is an AMD X4 640 board & CPU. Does anybody think this would be sufficient for a 6 tuner Ceton card, along with 4 users (machine dedicated to WMC), or would it be better to look at an APU or I3 cpu ?

Thanks

That's a 3ghz quad core. Yeah it would be more than sufficient to run that. I'd recommend 8gigs of memory. That's an AM3 motherboard so I'd expect it to support DDR2 at least and SATA2. Again plenty sufficient. When you say "4 users" do you mean 4 extenders around the house?

Actually the MB that was used with it, uses DDR3. As far as "users", 4 is the number of people that at all could be using it at one time. As far as equipment goes, it would be the HTPC & 3-4 extenders.

Yeah that's a nice rig. Better specs than a lot of people use for that same workload. Unless he expects 3 people to be watching TV while a fourth person plays Skyrim on maximum settings, he's good to go lol.

Nope, there won't be any playing of any games on it. However I could use them using the Netflix app & using Comskip
