infiniTV 4 USB disabled with every reboot on Windows 8.1

I upgraded from windows 7 to 8.1 64 bit recently, and my issue is the usb network device becomes disabled in device manager with every reboot and ceton diagnostics will not find it. It will give the error message....usb device failed to start in the control panel. Usually, what works is disabling the usb device and reenabling it and then power cycling the usb tuner and reconnecting the usb cable.......then ceton diagnostics finds the tuner and everything works great in wmc until the next reboot.

I have tried:

- every firmware/driver combination for windows 8 and even 7, betas included
- tried every usb port on the back of my mini pc........including attaching a powered hub. However, I used this same system for well over a year with the usb tuner in windows 7, and never had any issues with the tuner going missing.

I'm stumped at what the problem could be, every other usb device I have seems to work fine with windows 8.1.

My system does the exact same thing. It is driving me crazy and I have tried everything. Did you find a solution for this problem mate?

Have you tried disabling USB Selective suspend in Control Panel>Advanced Power Options?

I know it is not currently officially supported. However they have the drivers posted on the BETA site;

It worked fine on Windows 8 and didn't start acting up until I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I thought it would be worthwhile to see if anyone else had any luck with this

One of the things to consider is if you can easily install an add-on usb 2.0 card, via chipset or the like, different from what you're currently using, they're not very expensive, I keep 2 or 3 floating around.
Possibly verify it's not a usb hardware/driver issue.

Unfortunately that isn't an option as this is an all in one PC which I use in my kitchen.

I have tried the different ports which are on different hubs to no avail. The system was solid before going to 8.1 however, so I guess it could be because the device isn't totally supported on the platform

And there we have it.

Unfortunately there were some changes made in Windows 8.1 that affect USB communication. These changes negatively affect our drivers for the USB infiniTV. Due to these changes and problems we have chosen not to support Windows 8/8.1 with the infiniTV USB. However, many of our customers have been able to successfully use the USB model with Windows 8 itself, but not 8.1. If Windows 8 is a must for you then we would definitely recommend downgrading back to Windows 8 from 8.1.

So Ceton support is saying that if we want to keep our Windows updated, they will not support our tuners from them? Outrageous!!! Must be their marketing scheme to try to force us to buy new tuners! Might be time to look at HomeRun tuners?

Trust me, I'm not a supporter of Ceton (just read my posts). But no hardware manufacturer can guarantee that their hardware will work with future versions of an operating system (Windows, Linux, or whatever). That said, I wonder how hard Ceton worked to develop new drivers for Windows 8.1. It's difficult to believe that an OS change to the way USB drivers are handled could prevent a manufacturer from reliably transferring data over USB, which is essentially what the InfiniTV4-USB does. I understand that Media Center has some unforgiving requirements on the timing of the communication though... so it would be understandable if OS changes caused delays in the transmission of data which exceeded the limits allowed by Media Center... and this would be beyond the ability of Ceton to repair... because Microsoft is probably unwilling to modify the timing required by Media Center nor the delays imposed by the Win8 drivers.
