I think most people use event ghost or something similar. That enables you to map each command to something that actually works in Win 8.

Since you can easily navigate through metro apps, wouldn't it be possible to map the remote commands to keyboard buttons, like the green button mimics the windows button etc? I doubt MS will ever support the ehome remote for navigating win8.

I tried an ehome transceiver/remote and it works to control windows 8 start screen, I'm trying to figure how it controls the play, pause, stop, fwd, rwd, prev, next.
There does not seem to be keyboard shortcuts to do so. Yes, I'm somehow trying to map the controls; Example: I would like Ctrl+F to skip to next song in xbox music app.
Any ideas on how to do this?

Windows 8 ehome IR Transceiver and RC6 Remote:
Remap Green Button to Start Screen:
1.Launch the Registry Editor by going to start/run type regedit.
2.Navigate to, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da File/Export and export the key. This will work to restore things if you mess this process up.
3.Double-click on the binary value named ReportMappingTable to modify it.
4.Scroll to the bottom of the binary data and left click, add the following. You don’t actually type the spaces, it will automatically input them for you:
0D 00 00 00 04 08 00
or:
OD 00 00 00 04 1 29
Click ok.
5.Reboot your computer.
6.Launch an app, then click the Green Button on your remote. If you are returned to the Windows 8 Start screen then you did everything correctly.
