Extender Dilemma ;)

#1

Post by woodchuck » Wed Oct 02, 2013 2:58 am

I'll be in the market for an extender in the next few months and can't decide which route to go. Mostly I can't decide where to get one. Here are my facts:

-I'm running Windows 7 on my HTPC, and really don't plan to move to 8
-I'm not much of a gamer, but do have an irrational love for Grand Theft Auto.
-I just purchased some Bridgestone tires, and they have a rebate! Either $70 VISA card, or $100 at Gamestop
-The extender will be used occasionally, but not full time.

So, it seems an Echo is out. To me I can get more bang for my buck by buying a used 360. They are cheap, and will be getting cheaper... So... Here are my options:

1) Get a Gamestop refurb unit for $130 +sh +tx. With the gift card for $100 = not a bad deal. The problem: No guarantee of an HDMI Xbox with the refurb units. It sounds like a crap shoot.
2) Wait for the Xbox One to launch, and scoop up a cheap 360 on Ebay. This lets me get a Slim, or maybe a 360E, which I'd prefer. Use my Gamestop card to buy GTA V. Or just get the VISA card for $70 and buy diapers for my kids.

So, fellow MC'ers: Am I missing another obvious option? This is IMPORTANT stuff!!! ;)

4 GB 360. No reason not to and limit yourself to not upgrading to Windows 8 in the future. I believe you can use a USB drive for game installs.

Edit: I thought you're asking what extender to buy so I edited my response to fix my response from the previous one. I've been drinking lay off.

FWIW, I got all of my Xbox Slims on craigslist for less than $100, and sometimes for no cash at all when I could work out a trade. When the One comes out, used prices are really going to drop. I'd save that Gamestop money for something besides hardware.

Amazon had XBOX 360E for essentially $130 a few days ago. It was $179 - $50 Amazon gift card. = $129

Yeah, I had had it in my cart for a few days now. I can't justify buying it, since we have Linksys extenders that work, and an old 360 that works...

I just don't need it yet. Once the Xbox One launches, I'm curious what I can get a Slim or an E for on ebay?
