Steam OS / Linux for Echo?

#1

Post by exigence7 » Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:39 pm

Valve just released info on their SteamOS - a Linux based operating system that can play steam games, stream non-Linux based games, and also stream video content. It got me wondering if such an OS could be put onto the Echo. I have no programming experience, but I seem to recall that Android was Linux based at one point (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong). If that's true, perhaps the hardware issue that prevented Android would also prevent Linux or SteamOS from working as well. Or perhaps Ceton could sell / license the work they did to get Media Center working on Android to Valve.

My opinion is that a firmware update (of any kind) for your echo is as likely as a firmware update for your toaster.

It's not even especially good specs wise which makes it a poor choice for hacking.
