Only 4 Tuners Configure with InfiniTV 6

#1

Post by rimmel » Tue Aug 27, 2013 10:46 pm

I just attempted to install a new Ceton InfiniTV 6 PCIe card. During Media Center "Setup for TV Signal Detection Result" it tells me that only 4 tuners can be configured even though 6 tuners were detected. I am running Windows 7 SP1 and Ceton driver: "ceton_infinitv_setup_w7_sp1_13_06_03_1088.exe". I know there used to be a limit of 4 tuners from one source, but I assumed Ceton had overcome this limit. Even the Ceton YouTube video on configuring Media Center uses Windows 7 and clearly shows 6 tuners being configured. What gives here!

Try the BETA drivers for the ETH. Seems to resolve this problem.

There is a 4 tuner per type limit in windows.

The ceton drivers supposedly work around this

if you cant get it working try this:

Thanks for the reply shortcut3d. Where would I obtain "BETA drivers for the ETH". The Ceton support page "Installations & Downloads" provides the same driver for Windows 7 as the "Beta Driver Update Page"; (ceton_infinitv_setup_w7_sp1_13_06_03_1088.exe). They are byte for byte identical. Are beta drivers located somewhere else? If I can't resolve this issue, TunerSalad will my last resort.

I don't have a Ceton tuner anymore, but I seem to remember that there is a setting in the Ceton configuration app to choose the beta delivery channel for firmware/drivers. The configuration app is a Windows program, so you'll need to click on the Windows start-menu and look and/or search for it.

That tool doesnt always work.

If they significantly change the code branch, its stops updating and just says you have current.

I always check the download pages.

Over the 2 years ive had my cards, twice the download page has had newer dirvers/firmware than the tool indicated.

I think you need the latest Ceton Utility to get the latest Beat drivers.

In the utility go to "upgrade" and checkmark to "incliud beta"

I just discovered my self that stable driver did not have tuner limit over ride, but beta did.

The solution to this problem was to use the "Ceton Diagnostics Tool" on the "Device" tab to "Clear Tuner Configuration" then "Discover Tuners". After which I reran the TV signal setup and all 6 tuners were recognized and configured. Apparently Ceton is increasing the max tuner limit on driver installation. It just needs a liitle nudge to actually work!

That happened to me when I had to temporary install my PCIe 6 in my backup machine while I waited for Intel to RMA my mobo. I just figured it was because my backup machine only had a dual core 2.4GHz and 4 GB of RAM...

FWIW, this happens with the InfiniTV4 as well. I've had to rerun TV setup a few times in the last 3 years, and sometimes all 4 tuners get detected, and other times only 2 or 3 tuners get detected. Sometimes clearing the tuner config fixes the issue, and other times I've had to completely uninstall and reinstall the InfiniTV driver. I'm really not sure if this is a bug in the InfiniTV or in WMC.

To clarify, the only time re-running TV setup was ever related to instability was the time when I blew up my old Zotac motherboard. The rest of the time has been due to testing, tweaking, etc.

Now as far as the term "stability" relates to the detection of all 4 tuners...well, it's anything but stable.

Ive found over the years that when tuners start disappearing, just shutting down the machine and fully disconnecting the power (or flipping the toggle on the power supply) for a few minutes usually fixes the problem.

Most people forget to unplug the power when shutting down. Modern mobos keep the busses engergized for faster startup and/or settings retention. Removing that power usually resets things.
