IR Extender

#1

Post by rdy2go » Sat Sep 24, 2011 5:56 pm

Hey all-

I'm thinking about moving my TV above the fireplace. Currently my HTPC is in my entertainment center, connecting a USB IR receiver is no issue. In this new plan I would have the HTPC tucked away in another room. Anyone have a discrete IR extender solution that they like? I don't think the wife wouldn't go for a IR receiver and USB extender sitting on the mantel. :D

If it helps I'm using a Harmony One remote.

As always I look forward to your insight.

SmartHome has over 200 different IR Repeater Products

You might be able to get away with velcroing the IR Reciever behind the Monitor facing down and as close to teh bottom as possible. This will keep any device from being visibble on the mantle and will reduce interference from the florescent backlighting of teh monitor if it is a standard LCD display. If you have LED Backlight, the repeater may perform better.

Yes, the hot-link line is an excelent product. I used the hot-link pro when I had a cabinet and hid my AV equipment.

It looks like they have updated the design since the version I purchased. The one you posted above looks better for long runs and mey be better for the OP.

Thanks looks like one of these will be the route to go. All I have is the HTPC IR receiver so I don't need a multi-IR system.

Looks good but a little pricey and I only need one repeater (which I didn't specify). Yeah, fireplace above the TV is certainly a touchy subject, some hate it others love it. I'm in the middle, but it will make the room much more functional and we don't watch a ton of TV.
