Format Recorder Storage Drive???
How do I format my hard drive I use for my WMC DVR storage??? Since the service runs in the background it doesn't let me do it.

My the USB connectors died in my WMC PC. So while I was waiting for the replacement to arrive from Intel I moved my 3TB drive over to my backup WMC PC so I would still have TV. Now that I've moved it back I need to clean off the recorded content since it won't play.
I figured out a way. I just inserted my Windows 7 OEM CD and formatted through setup.

I know it's too late now, but you almost answered your own question. Stop the service.kd6icz wrote:Since the service runs in the background it doesn't let me do it.

Uh, why didn't you just delete the files through Windows Explorer?kd6icz wrote:My the USB connectors died in my WMC PC. I tried... But even after emptying the Recycle Bin it still showed 8GB of files on the drive.crawfish wrote:Uh, why didn't you just delete the files through Windows Explorer?kd6icz wrote:My the USB connectors died in my WMC PC. I attempted to look through the running services but had no idea which ones were tied to WMC. I even booted in Safe Mode and it still wouldn't let me format the drive. So the Win7 DVD seemed like my only option.

What files were left behind? You can show hidden and system files through Folder Properties, and there are also programs like TreeSize Free that will help you figure out where the space is going.kd6icz wrote:I tried... I would imagine that the TempRec directory was the culprit. That's your Live TV buffer.
