Cable Card not getting messages

#1

Post by azawisza » Wed Aug 14, 2013 1:57 am

Randomly my cable card stopped getting messages and I cannot tune to any channel.

Ceton Diagnostic Tool shows green check marks by everything but messages and tuning to channel.

Has anyone had this issue before or have any idea what is causing it?

Some more information is needed:

Cable System, Type of cableCARD (moto/Cisco SA) SDV or not, and have you looked at the cableCARD diagnostics tabs? If you have a Cisco Card have you checked:

Cisco CableCARD(tm)
Network Interface-DAVIC

Host Type: One-Way
FDC Status
Frequency: 74500 kHz
Data Rate: 1.544 Mbps
RS Corr Err: 0
RS Uncorr Err: 0
Status: Locked

If your card isn't locked it won't work, and there are other things that can cause trouble as well. In the Ceton WebGui does it show the card is:
Validated, validation message is received, authenticated, and the IDs match those in the current binding

BTW that's the same page you go to for access to the internals in the cableCARD.

Looks like you are not getting the OOB control signal. I think Moto is a little lower than Cisco like around 74 MHz Also the State should say Ready I think so in effect they've either updated your card FW and it failed or there is a signal problem on your line or someone at the cable company turned you off. Try just pulling the card (with everything on--no shut down reboot--waiting 30 seconds to a minute and then putting it back in and see if it authorizes and pulls an OOB signal and goes ready. If not call your cable company and have the line checked or swap out the card for a new one.

OOB frequencies can vary for Moto and Cisco systems. If you are no longer able to tune any channels and do not get OOB lock, this sounds like an RF issue. Have you verified the coax cable has a valid signal on it?
