720p anyone?

#1

Is anyone out there running win 8 on a 720p TV? The minimum required resolution to run apps on Win 8 is 1280x768. Well the native resolution on a 720p is 1280x720. Running metro at this resolution will get you a low resolution error. I'm running an Intel HD integrated graphics card. At 1280X720 I'm able to go into the graphics properties and scale it to fit my TV as its a bit overscanned if I don't. However if I want to run apps, I need to change the resolution to 1366x768. However if I run it at that resolution, the graphics adapter will not let me scale it and I'm stuck with and overscanned win 8. I can only scale it at 1280x720. I'm currently running windows 7 now which works great and the only reason I am even considering upgrading it is #1 I own an upgrade to windows 8 pro with media center and # 2, I'd like to use the Netflix app that gives me 5.1 and other apps such as YouTube and crackle. And I don't mind using a mouse. However something is telling me its not worth it and to just stick with windows 7. Any ideas on how to scale my graphics card to fit my tv at 1366x768? My tv is a Panny plasma with only aspect ratio and zoom controls. Thanks.

I run Win 8 at 1366x768 on one of my 720p TVs and fixed the overscan in the TV settings, 1:1 or native or something like that, might be "JUST" setting on Panny. If you have no such setting, could you use VGA rather than HDMI? That might do the trick. I get the low res warning too. Nothing you can do about that.

Honestly, I think you'd be better off just streaming from some other device like a BD player, Roku or Chromecast. Those are all a lot easier to control in a home theater environment than Win 8 apps.

Yeah I think you're right. I have the original roku which doesnt do 5.1 but I hear the chromecast can do 5.1. I do have a Just setting and a 4.3 and a full setting but it still overscans when using 1366x768. No VGA on my Panny. Heck, it's pretty stable and fast on win 7 I think I'll keep it the way it's. if it ain't broke.......
