Flicker after HTPC has been running for a while
All, I have a nVidia GeForce GT 430 video card and Hauppauge DCR 2650. It works well, but after a while it seems that the picture will start to flicker (even when using my clear QAM tuner--a HVR 2250). I've noticed it more after resuming from standby. A reboot usually solves the issue. I have the ehPresenter.dll registry tweak to force it to use 0-255. This is on Window 8 32-bit. Has anyone else experience a similar issue?

Did the problem start after updating from the previous driver build?jbf154 wrote:I am using the latest.
Or has this been an ongoing issue?
If it started with the latest driver build (310.90) try rolling back to the previous driver build here (310.70): http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7- ... river.html
It sounds like you may be experiencing the 29/59 bug. (google it for more info or search the forum here for more info.)
You will get a flicker on content not properly encoded that quickly switches framerate between 29/59hz. Eveytime it changes you get a white flicker on screen.. very annoying.
The Nvidia cards and drivers usually do a good job at not displaying the flicker but some driver builds are worse than others and it may display on screen.
If your current driver doesn't handle 29/59 well you can test it to know for sure with this file I'll link you to in my Skydrive. Play it on your machine if it flickers on screen you have the 29/59 bug and you will need to find a driver that works better.
here's the link to the file: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=08AFD0E4 ... FD88%21712
Since you have Driver 310.90 installed if the file above produces flicker when you play it then you will want to try the other driver build above 310.70 and re-test with the file again. If you have no flicker then that would be the driver I would use for now until Nvidia releases a newer build. This may take some time and a few driver builds for Nvidia to correct the issue.
Once you have a Solid driver that doesn't flicker set up these settings in Nvidia Control Panel:
Open Nvidia Control Panel
On the left Select Adjust Desktop Color Settings
On the right #3 set Digital Color Format to YCbCr444
Set Content Type reported to display to Full Screen Videos.
Click Apply in the lower Right Corner.
Let me know how you get on with this,
Good Luck

^ this is usually disabled by default in NVIDIA control panel after driver install.

Yes, dynamic contrast is already turned off. It seems to happen after MC has been open for a little while. I have the "max performance" option set in the nVidia control panel. I'm going to try to downgrade drivers and see if it goes away.

See my post regarding this bug, it may provide an acceptable workaround. (backs up newfiend's post above)
