WTB: Spare Media Center Remote

#1

Post by makryger » Sat Jul 02, 2011 2:58 am

Just got a used XBOX as an extender... but I need an IR media center remote. I could buy a really really cheap one off of ebay for about $7. But it doesn't even have volume buttons or any learning. Does anyone else have a very cheap/used media center remote they are not using that I could buy? Not looking for anything fancy; just something that works.

I used to have this one for the bedroom. Not sure where it's off to right now, but if I can dig it up, would you be interested?

I've got several of the Hauppauge remotes that some with the HDPVR's. If that would work for you give me an address and you can just cover the shipping.

Hey, are the hauppauge remotes actual media center remotes? ie, can they control media center? Hauppauge makes two remotes, pictured here: http://store.hauppauge.com/hardware2.as ... ct=hvr1600 It sounds like the "hauppauge" remote is only for their own hardware, whereas the media center one will work with a normal Windows IR device, (And by extension, an XBOX)

It's the grey one. I wasn't aware they had a couple different remotes.

Have you ever tried controlling media center with the grey one?

Not directly. I use Eventghost for everything so I can technically use which ever remote I'd like. Any remote would only have to be able to learn the power button from the TV remote.

Ok, it probably won't work for an xbox then. But thank you for the offer.

Makryger,

Sorry for the late response. Been offline for the holiday weekend. I still haven't located it, but I'm pretty sure I know who has it (and it's not being used). If I can locate it this week, I can send it off to you (if you're still interested). Just cover the cost of shipping.

Found it. Tested it out on my Windows 7 Ultimate system and it's working perfectly.

Nevermind... I guess it is the same one I linked previously.

This is the one with the TV Power and Volume.

http://www.shop.perfecthometheater.com/ ... -RC197.htm

I purchased four from these guys and the remotes are fairly good quality. Dell used to have a version of this w/o the programmable TV Power and Volume, and they were fairly flimsy remotes. Don't let teh Dell Version fool you. These are nice.
