Windows Update - Video file playback issue
was there a recent update that messed up playback of certain video files. it seems similar to Platform Update for Windows 7 x64-Edition (KB2670838). that update did the exact same thing

In the last week or so there was an update. Completely reset my WMC system recognition of my COMCAST cable box. Had to reprogram the IR BLASTER to allow it to change channels. Also messed up my previous settings of START MENU modifications. .... Thanks a lot Microsoft.

Yeah, because MS is continually pushing out Media Center updates.
NOT!
Whatever caused your WMC to act weird, it wasn't an update from MS - Microsoft isn't making any updates to WMC.

My system in WIN7x64. WMC was working fine. Installed latest updates. Maybe it corrected the registry structure with the updates. No idea. My BLASTER was forgotten. Also my modified START MENU structure was forgotten. These sound like settings that might be in the registry, which could have been redone by a win7 update.

If it was a caused by a Windows Update, it would have effected everyone. Nobody else has seen the problem that you've described. That makes it extremely unlikely that the problem that you encountered was caused by a Windows update.offroad wrote:My system in WIN7x64. WMC was working fine. Installed latest updates. I keep my HTPCs up to date with latest MS updates (I like to live dangerously). No issues here. So it's something specific to your setup(s).

Figures. Maybe need to do some more system scans on my machine.
