MCEST worked fine until I upgraded to W8. Their tech support is virtually non-existent. Is there a good alternative?

Of course there's an alternative: Adjust the settings directly in Windows instead of telling MST to adjust the settings for you.

You can also run the power management trouble shooter in Windows - running this every couple of months has replaced MCE Standby for me.
