No real luck with large movies through my extenders
Firstly, I'm using Media Browser as my movie library and I like it... it does the job I want it to and that's fine by me. I recently started using Blu Ray on my PC, and started ripping BR discs with the audio (I have a home theater with surround sound so I like that), captions, and the movie. The files wind up being like 10GB or something.
When I play it back on my PC, they work fine. When I play it through my Xbox (slim), it's not watchable. It's either choppy or doesn't even move. I have set my flow control on my PC, and the entire network runs off of a gigabit network on a small office Dell Powerconnect switch. I can pipe over big files no problem from PC to PC, but this problem has me stumped.
While I can easily just set it back down to DVD quality, I'd like to get BR for some movies if possible.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance

The bit rate on Blu-ray movies is too high for an extender, you will need to re-encode the rip to a lower bit rate, under 18 Mbit/s works best for extenders.

Any extender? What about the Echo? It has a gigabit port, unlike the Xbox 360 which is only 10/100.

If the movies are only 10GB then they have already been re encoded. What format are you using?

I use the "high profile" plugin for Handbrake, and add in the subtitles. That's about it, nothing fancy.
The strange thing is that my WTV files that are 15GB play just fine, no lag, no nag, 30 second skip works perfectly as well.... all issues I have when playing back MP4 files (which is how I rip).
Any suggestions would be helpful, but my thought is that if a 15GB WTV file plays back fine, why not a 10GB MP4?
Thanks!

I use the normal profile and rip to mkv then remux to m2ts. My file sizes are between 3-6 GB. The issue with the Xbox isn't the file size but the bit rate of the video.

So can I set the bitrate down in order for it to work? Or will it make it look terrible?Shackleford wrote:I use the normal profile and rip to mkv then remux to m2ts. My file sizes are between 3-6 GB. The issue with the Xbox isn't the file size but the bit rate of the video.

Lowering the bit rate of your encodes will lower the quality but it won't look terrible. Mine look as good or better than my hd recordings from wmc.

I leave everything as is from this profile just changing from .mp4 to .mkv. I only switch the container for easy remuxing.Shackleford wrote:I use the normal profile and rip to mkv then remux to m2ts.
