Hi Guys,

just wondering if anyone has tried this or know if its possible.

there is a onabard hdmi which I am not usingm I have a 2nd graphic card connected direct to tv for picture,

what I was hoping to do was use the onboard hdmi connected to amp for HD AUDIO

any tips?

You can't bitstream HD audio with that motherboard's onboard HDMI port. Additionally, you can't transfer the audio portion of the signal via HDMI without there being a video signal to accompany it (this is a limitation of the HDMI specification). Try setting Windows to extend the desktop to the onboard video (as the 2nd monitor). You won't get HD audio, but you should be able to bitstream Dolby Digital and DTS (both non-HD) and up to 8 channel PCM.

may as well stick to optical for now so....

really would lie to get HD audio going, somehow! but I think my htpc is limited internally, with all slots taken with tuners (3) and a graphic card...

any idea why that hdmi cannot do HD audio?

The GPU you have in that motherboard simply doesn't have the ability.

One thing you could do is change out your discreet graphics card for one that supports HD audio bitstreaming.
