Best InfiniTV 4 firmware/hardware combo?

#1

Post by makryger » Tue Jun 11, 2013 1:36 am

I'd like to minimize the time that i get the spinning circle of doom when I startup media center. I've lost track of what the best hardware/software combo for that is? Can anyone give any suggestions? Plus possibly a link to the proper files?

How long is your circle of doom? On a first boot of a machine and starting MC, I get one that might run 30 seconds and if I then go to the Guide another 10 seconds or so.

With everything up for half hour or so, starting an extender produces a 10 second to 15 second circle followed by another 10 seconds or so when the guide is loaded. I think the time is related to the number of tuners and on one machine there are 10 cableCARD and two clear QAM, on another 10 cableCARD and four clear QAM.

As far as FW/HW, you are at the mercy of what the diagnostic tool gives you. With Beta I'm running FW 13.5.6.132; HW 6832 both supplied with "beta" checked and latest beta driver package.

I'm getting about 15 seconds when i wake up the computer from sleep... 4 tuners. Right now, I'm on firmware 1.2.2.6, firmware 6829. Driver package is 13.3.22.1342.

I've tried various HW/FW/driver combinations, and they all have the donut issue. I haven't noticed any real improvements with the various HW/FW/driver combos. AFAIK, the only solution is to switch tuner manufacturers, as the InfiniTV seems to be the only tuner that exhibits this issue (however, I'm not sure if the 6ETH has the issue).

Strange.. the longest I get the spinning circle is maybe 10 seconds or so from wakeup... short enough for me to not even know that it was an actual issue.

I don't see the circle at all ever since I switched from an InfiniTV4 to two HDHR Primes. I've read at least one post that says that the ETH still has the spinning circle.

Since I have two HDHRP's, I must have two cable cards. For me, the extra $2.99/month for the additional cable card is well worth the stability and quick tuning of the HDHRP's.

I also don't have any temperature problems with the HDHRP's. They are in a closet that is usually 80-85F with no active cooling, and they work just fine.

FWIW, the best combo for me is the latest firmware but a quite old driver package from 2012/08/28. Newer drivers cause me a lot of problems, especially when resuming from sleep.
